What the hell?? (Mark Kreigel column)
http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/8165266/Kobe,-Lakers-turn-it-on-when-they-have-to
This column is only mildly annoying until the end. Check this out:
"The Spurs, meanwhile, have now given up their biggest playoff lead since Stats Inc. started keeping records back in 2002. Their last worst loss came in 2003, when they squandered a 19-point advantage to the Dallas Mavericks.
That was a long time ago, though. The Spurs were younger, and I can't help but think, more resilient. A team that never seems to fold collapsed in historic fashion Wednesday night.
"Hurts like hell," said Popovich. "
What the fuck??
1. We were more resilient in 2003?? Really? Did he black out the second round? Did he just get assined to the NBA beat?
2. He's taking Pop's statement to mean we're dismayed. Has he ever met Pop?
3. We never fold? We fold once a series annually to the Nuggets. That or the "wordmichaelhasbanned" game always occurs.
Sorry, but I somehow avoided a hangover this morning, and I was happy, but now I have a headache. And it's Kreigel's fault.

This is worse. Plaschke says the Lakers have already won the series

He’s a homer. I expect that from a homer.

actually he is just an idiot, not a homer.

what else is new? I mean everyone already said our series was over against the Hornets after 2 games! I can’t wait to see the articles on Saturday when we beat LA!

How can you take a journalist serious when they write off a team after one game? And comparing the Spurs to the kings? Give me a break. The Spurs have blown plenty of big leads before, so just because it’s in the playoffs doesn’t automatically sign our death certificate. Yeah, it’s a tough loss, but for some reason it never felt like a HUGE loss – the kind that sucks the wind out of your sails kind of loss. I’ll take this kind over the .4 kind any day. At least from my fan perspective. They showed me enough that they will have plenty of chances to win this series.

Yeah, anybody that has played ball before could tell that this team ran out of gas. That’s not an excuse, it’s a fact. Tony didn’t have the same jump in the 2nd half, Manu didn’t have it the whole night. I’m not worried yet, but game 2 is a must win.

I don't think Game 2 is a must win
Because the Spurs were down 2-0 to the Hornets, so Spurs fans will still have hope. Never mind that the Lakers are better than the Hornet.
I will only begin full gloating mode if the Lakers go up 3-0 or 3-1.

I feel you, but.....
Every game is a must win. Especially when a chip is on the line.

Yeah, I agree with you here. With an average age of 73.4, we can’t play the “we did it already against the hornets” card. Matthew said it best, but coming back from another 2-0 will be VERY unlikely twice in the West playoffs, especially versus a team much much better than Nawlins. I hate to say ‘must win’ only two games in, but it sure seems that way to me. Of course, whomever wins #2, Game 3 will then be a must win for SA, followed by the ‘must win’ of Game 4 and the gotta win Game 5.

Game 7 is a must win
For both teams.

Given the circumstances
If we manage to pull off 3 straight (not a tall tale if they put a solid game together, but very very tough nonetheless) then I think Game 5 will go to LA. Desperation, in thier building, etc….which is why I still think SA in 6.

For all of the NO praise you guys have been dropping, remember one thing. We are a much better road team than they are. We had best road record in the West. So I wouldn’t just assume that you will win all 3 games in SA.

your right on that note. NO’s youth and inexperience played a big factor in that respect. but the spurs are also a little better at home than on the road, which is true with most teams. these teams are so evenly matched this season this is gonna be a bloody battle from hell. just like the 2005 detroit pistons v spurs. this is the kinda series i love. all i can tell you with absolute confidence is that the team yall played against in game 1 is not the same team you will see tonight. better rested and battle tested. Go Spurs-

I think even down 0-2 that they can pull it to 2-2
Because of the things that have been going on this year…namely :
At home - role players/bench players play a LOT better at home than on the road. You guys have said that much about your bench in LA.
At home - home team cookin’...that happens quite a bit in SA, I will freely admit.
At home—The Spurs haven’t lost in this postseason just like the Lakers, and date back to the Semis of last season vs. Pheonix, Game 4 when they lost last time.
THAT SAID : I will also freely admit that if they go down 0-2, it will be 100000000x harder to come back on a Kobe-lead team than the Hornets. I fully believe that. Because while his teammates haven’t been there before, Kobe has. And as shown last night, that’s all it takes. As good as Chris Paul is, he was a rookie to the postseason, and it showed in Games 6-7.

Yes our bench is much, much better at home. Youth and inexperience will do that. Of course your bench is older than your starters so maybe the opposite is true, who knows. (Homerism alert!!!) I think the Lakers will steal one in SA so I think (obviously) that you need to win 2 in LA. But time will tell….
