24 Minutes to show the world that this run is not over.
NOT YET
Superman wears Manu Ginobili pajamas to bed.
Hey, everybody channel up all that pre-game energy and excitement and bring it for the third quarter.
We need to show.

If we don’t start driving the paint, and don’t focus on roughing their bigs to get them in foul trouble, we are gonna see a repeat of Nawlins games 1,2, 5. Pop needs to see this!!! We can’t rely on the 3s all game!! And please leave Duncan on West, mmmkay? Good luck in the 2nd, fellers…
I’ve said exactly that so many times that even I’m getting pissed at myself for being repetitive. Tony and Manu had two great drives near the end… but not much else.
chaos... panic... pandemonium... my work here is done.
That’s because you’re brilliant, rick. And that would also make me…..brilliant. I’d love to say that I should be a coach, but it’s really just common sense driven by observation.

I think Barkley might have wagered on the game. I saw he owed a $400K gambling debt. He picked the Hornets and now some big dudes with mink coats are waiting for him outside the studio.
True, but I’m with rick on the ‘haven’t seen anything different in this game that would lead me to believe the pattern has been broken.’

I have been on the road today listening to pregame stuff. Amazingly, with all the discussion about clutch players and “experience vs youth” not one ESPN guru gave any comments about Ginobili. I don’t know what these experts have been watching for the last 7-8 years of NBA and international play. I rate him above anyone in these situations over that time frame. Good luck in the second half
I’ve got the creme soda working for the 2nd half!

I’m trusting your mojo and getting on the creme soda bandwagon. Thankfully, creme soda is nectar of the gods anyway, and it’s not too much of a sacrifice. Which brand are you sporting for the LA series?

Not to get all “it’s-all-about-us” again, but the creme soda is 2-0 in these playoffs.

And that’s exactly why I want in. Now. Before any other PtRers jump onboard. And I vow to be only a valuable contribution to your creme soda mojo. Here’s the problem….
No HEBs in Colorado.
Can I just go with A&W or IBC? Jones Soda is dogshit, so I’m left with only those two options.

IBC Definitely
If you’re on board with IBC, you’re on board all the way.

How do the Spurs do it? How do they stay so calm when I’m about to have a freakin’ heart-attack every 2 minutes.. just by watching???

it’s a joke Chandler is Man handling Tim down low and the refs are letting him get away with it!
by adam8065 on May 19, 2008 9:09 PM CDT reply actions
I mean he is no hacking him, but Chandler is bumping Timmy all over the place… the refs have been good (a couple of mistakes BOTH ways) but Timmy has to start getting some of those calls!
I’m scared these idiot refs are going to call Tim for his 4!

+13, guys. We need to keep this up. Just another 2 and a half minutes, dammit. Let’s slow this game to a crawl.

Hey All
I was bummed to miss the game thread tonight. The stoogetv feed was getting slowed down by the loading time for the thread. I was thinking of the comments that would have been made here, however, especially during that 4 rebound shit-fest near the end of the 4th quarter.
We have to give major props to Antoine, he had a HUGE jumper with 50 secs left and he made those two ft’s when he had to. I’m not even going to mention Ginobili, we all already worship at the altar of his perfection. Thanks all.
Go Spurs Go,
J-
I was off the thread for most of the night myself, and I had the comments going in my head as well. Very funny how you start to miss it once you get used to watching and posting all game long—with people you’ve never met.

mummies and bench
Huge jumper by Tony to seal the deal…
But since we glorigy the Big Three so much, lets appreciate how well our resident mummies and role players played. They were the real heros tonight, crashing the boards for offensive rebounds, hitting humongous threes in the 3rd quarter, and fighting for every rebound. Hats off to Horry, Finley, Udoka, Oberto and Thomas. And Bruce, thanks for shaming Peja again in the second half.
Also gotta mention
RoHo’s Threes—yes, that’s multiple three point shots he made. In a single game.
And he had some great tap outs as well as knocking the ball away a few times as well.

Manu kept on shooting like a champ those free throws for game sevens…only missed one whole game that must make him something like 24-25 in game sevens…cold blooded (fortunately, because he had a crappy second half)...but still love him
I read something the other day that said Manu was 100% in game 7’s and could pass Byron Scott for all-time in Game 7’s—minimum of 3. He probably did tonight since he has more than 20 attempts.

give it up for the role players
this was a great game. all the role players were key to the success. the big three played good but it was the others who scrambled for every loose ball.. rebounds… hustle plays.. and key 3 pt shots. i especially want to give it up for RoHo for coming into this environment after all the drama.. and performing after all that hostility.. did u hear the crowd when he first got the ball in this game? truly one that comes through in clutch. its not easy to drop them 3’s when the whole arena is screamin down ur neck everytime u get the ball. also Fin, Ime, and KT great games. of to LA now.
I can finally say this without jinxing...
so, Tyson Chandler is the biggest no talent ive ever seen working the low post… he literally offers nothing but some athleticism and seven feet… in his six some odd yrs in the league, he hasnt developed a reliable post game, a face up jumper, or anything… also….anyone catch the way CP3 darted off the court after the game, offering no congrats or any sort of class move… i can finally say this too, so “fuck that whiny bitch” ok…got it all out.. thats as mean as I’m getting all night…
Yeah, I saw at the end of the game Tony was looking all around for him, and kinda smirking. I was smirking too, but because Chris Paul is now clearly an asshole. I thought he handled himself fairly classy up to that point, but running off the floor after being eliminated at home was bush.

I was talking to my buddy around the 3rd quarter and said, “Its pretty damn difficult to beat a team if you know they’re gameplan and still can’t stop ‘em”. I think that about sums up the series. Whatever Bowen makes, should be doubled ASAP. This is the first time ALL YEAR Ive seen Peja get taken out of a game, much less a series. On the bright side, Ric Flair was at the game to do a few live WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOs
Looking back at our season, if someone would have said we’d take the Spurs to 7 games in the 2nd round of the playoffs at the start of the year I’d take it. We’re so young and things should only get better.

We get Chris Anderson (Birdman) back next year. Remeber that guy? 6’11 white guy in the slam dunk competition a few years back.. He was kicked out of the league for drugs. He’s nearly identical to a Tyson Chandler. Thats going to help our depth. Ely is OK but he can’t play the pick n’ roll game w/ Paul. We need a leaper. Also, Wright will turn into a solid 2 or 3 slasher which we desperatley need. Its great to have 2 great shooters in Peterson and Peja but having 2 guys like that w/ little athleticism hurts.
I was increasingly more nervous on that one possession that turned into 4 because of our jackass lack of hustle. But yeah, that Pargo almost-3 was rough. Stopped breathing for a second. But then again, I stopped breathing several times over this series. You guys were awesome. Far better than phx, that’s for sure; and your ceiling is much higher too.

For us to break even, we need to average 14,565 ppl per game. About mid-way into the season avg was about 12,000. The season ended up average 14,568. ;) They also said 2500 more season tickets were sold since the playoffs started. I think the NBA is finally here to stay
I nearly shit myself while that was in the air. All of the energy in the air left after that bounced out..
It wasn’t an enjoyable feeling that’s for sure. And that one series where you guys had 4 rebounds and capped it with a 3. wow….

And how crazy was THAT?! I was telling a buddy via text that my colon still tightens uncomfortably when Parker attempts a jumper. The only fault I can put on the coaching would be why not go one on one w/ Duncan to start the game? That damn rotation with the ball when Duncan gets double teamed is lethal.
But this came down to who made their shots. We didnt and you did. There were a few bad calls but nothing that turned the game either way, IMO.
Uhhhh. I think the right answer is: “After creating contact and veering into Manu, manipulating the foul, he got the shot off. After the buzzer.”

Yeah, but Manu’s violent too. Like when he swung his elbow at CP tonight and the resulting breeze threw CP back three feet. There was no cause for that; sometimes the Manu doesn’t realize his own strength.

NBA needs to look into fining players for flopping. Let league officials watch replays at games. It is annoying as shit. Paul didnt start flopping until the Dallas series. You may not believe it but i guess he was sick of Dirk getting away with it and was like screw it..
Phfft. Paul’s been a flopper for a while. Remember that “kick” that got Bowen suspended? If you actually WATCH the video, it never actually touched CP. CP3 nailed Bowen in the nads with his forearm, then when Bowen tried to jump back off him, CP flew backwards like he got kicked. It was such a fine acting job that the league front office didn’t bother checking any different angles before declaring it a flagrant 2. That was months before the Dallas series.
chaos... panic... pandemonium... my work here is done.
You’re drunk on crawfish. TD didn’t have to ‘create’ much contact tonight, Chandler was doing pretty good on his own. You can honestly say that you don’t see CP veering into defenders constantly with that elbow/push off? It’s going to be a sad day for Nooch when officials become wise to that.
by SgtinManusArmy on May 20, 2008 12:29 AM CDT up reply actions
huh? All Im saying is when Timmy drives to the bucket if he isnt going to get a shot off he’ll put his head into the opponent and get a call and yes Paul does the same thing.
The way Timmy starts his motion low, drawing contact and “creating” the foul is basketball. Yes, TD does flop. But you don’t have to create much contact on your own when you’re a 7-footer with an outside shot; the contact tends to come to you. You definately don’t see TD changing paths over into a defender to draw a foul.

Chandler is also 7 feet. Dude, Timmy is known across the league for getting calls. You cant honestly deny that?
No denying that at all. He gets the calls, and that’s a great discussion. But again, “You can honestly say that you don’t (as a Nooch fan) see CP veering into defenders constantly with that elbow/push off? “

Oh and you absolutley see Duncan change his path over and over again. Its smart because he gets away with it. Its pointless to try and get you to admit it because your a Spurs fan, but its amazing that everyone else in the league thinks he does it except Spurs fans. tonight it only happened twice so it had no effect on tonights game. Just saying in general.
No, I see what you’re trying to say, but it’s not truly the same thing. TD may draw contact, but he doesn’t veer out of his way into defenders. From what I saw of Paul, I counted many times that he deliberately (on a straight line path to the basket) veered off path simply to create contact. True that I’m a SPURS homer, but you’ll never catch me saying that Tim’s not adept at drawing fouls or Manu’s not a flopper. But I see Tim’s drawing of contact as being different, in that it’s in an effort to approach the basket. Paul will go away from the basket just to manipulate a call.

That said, nobody’s saying Paul’s not a smart player, cause it’s a smart move. I don’t like it and think it’s chickenshit, but it’s definately a smart basketball play. Our guys should have just been smarter and not been lured into it.

Tim’s a crafty old fart. He gets that call more in the regular season but not nearly as much in the playoffs. He really abuses undisciplined players by getting them to reach or getting them off balance. Chandler did a great job on him tonight forcing him into very tough shots.

We have him for two more years at 4 mill.
The demise of your team is going to be the salary cap. Once Paul gets his extension you guys will be in some trouble unless the owner is willing to take a loss. Chandler and Peja get paid too much. And Mo Pete ain’t cheap. If Armstrong and Wright don’t develop (or you get a steal in the late rounds) you guys will have a hard time getting any depth.

Yup.. Thats talked up a lot around here. The response people have is Paul makes everyone so much better so you dont really need a all start supporting cast. Just a bunch of players who know their roles. If Brent Berry were on the Hornets rather than Peja, he would have had just as great of a year.
Peja, scary as this may sound, is way better on defense. You guys need to get guys who contribute in ways other than scoring. Peja, Mo Pete, Pargo, Ely. Those aren’t guys who are giving you hustle plays, lock down d, or creating anything for anybody else. If they aren’t scoring, they aren’t contributing.

No comment there. Still in cigar-smoking, scotch-drinking, Game 7 win-celebrating mode now. Tomorrow begins my laker thoughts. I’m just not ready now. This series was exhausting.

I’m on board with that thought right there Sarge.

I think we’re all waiting for ESPN’s “experts” to tell us what the series will look like. lol All I know is that this will be a tilt.
Superman wears Manu Ginobili pajamas to bed.
Three of the eight picked us, so far.

I do NOT want to go to work
I’m so hyped up on caffeine and winning, and I just want to talk about the SPURS!!!. No one that I work with even knows that the NBA playoffs are going on right now.
Go Spurs Go,
J-
Ok dudes. I need to check work email and do all that crap then get some sleep. Congrats and I’ll be back next year, so don’t jump on my ass thinking I’m a troll. Good luck…....
Me too, rmcc4444. Good times and again, thanks for your classiness. Take care of yourself and talk to you next season.

Well crap, so now what?
Here you go…... Rachel Nichols, ESPN reporter. Can’t decides if she’s hot or not. She seems to be a two-face. She definately has a sexiness about her, but then there’s that goal-post teeth gap. I like the hair, but her never-blinking frightens me. I’m perplexed.
by SgtinManusArmy on May 20, 2008 12:49 AM CDT reply actions
Huh? No, she doesn’t seem to be too skinny. I think it’s just that she’s naturally attractive, but her stare-downs conflict with the natural attraction. I’m all for eye-contact, but when I watch her talk I feel like I’m losing part of my soul. She’s very intense, and I don’t know whether that’s good or not.

I was referring to your college days big lady.

Ahhhhhh, I got you. Thanks for remembering that….. and forcing me to remember as well. Believe me, sober, I like the skinny ones instead of the livestock.

You’d never make it in College Station

lol, I’ve heard that. That’s why I loved Lubbock. Tons of skinny and cute to be found, so long as you didn’t mind ‘dumb.’

Did any pay attention to whether or not Paul can use his left hand?
by Wayne Vore (ATS) on May 20, 2008 12:51 AM CDT reply actions
He’s not as versed as some would have you believe, but he used it effectively several times. He clearly preferred his right and for the next matchup I’d like to see us force him left when he persists in driving the lane.

David West had 12 points in the first quarter, then only 6 until his dunk in garbage time. Who was on him most of that time? I think Fab and RoHo.

laptop ran out of juice near the end and i couldnt find my power chord until this morning. bummer – as i missed all of the virtual high fives going around….......looks like it was a regular old washington redskins fun bunch in here….....great friggin win. wooooo (maybe i should say DAY-O).
great win – and yes i noticed paul’s mad post game dash. wuss. one of the differences in this game was him playing all the way and getting gassed down the stretch, i think. as a result, NOOCH relied heavily on pargo – and despite missing some early shots – he pretty much delivered all that he could for them.
in the end, it was spurs basketball all the way. ugly, boring, not flashy. just brutally effective. like the way a python wraps around its prey and slowly squeezes the life out.
NOOCH was a very worthy opponent and this series could truly have gone either way. i dont ever wanna see them again. they do have some growing up to do, but enough about them.
the good news is: free coffee at valero this morning! err, not for me as i live in ohio, but its kind of a rallying cry for me as it means that the spurs just won another play-off game.
this next series is sure to be another intestine grinder/colon masher. LA is a different beast for sure, but an old friend we know very well. you can bet that our game game plan will be pretty basic for wednesday – as it always is really.
let’s get one out there so we dont all get pushed to the ledge at once. a lot of folks were mailing in the now over NOOCH series a scant two weeks ago – and even after game 5. let’s keep the machine cranking here.
how gasol handles tim could be a big key in this series. remember he gave tim some problems last time they met. but we have some time to draw up pop’s game plan later.
and i almost forgot….....my 92-79 prediction wasnt that far off. like 4 points. imma bust that puppy out again when the time is right – since it worked so well this time…...
do i win the score contest? and what do i win? right! it was a post game presser featuring pouting chris paul and david west at the podium promising to get right back next year , while all the while skaing their heads at the spurs. transpose the heads of kobe bryant and pau gasol in 10 days and im good.
