Round 2, Game 6: vs New Orleans
The Spurs face an elimination game. It has been a while since we've been in this position.
The Hornets on the other hand, face a close out game. Rumor has it they are the hardest. I hope so.
I really believe we will win this, but I'm honestly not sure why. I think we will need Tim to play big and at least one of Manu and Tony to be exceptional. They need to play like all-stars.

I’m fine with Tim getting 20+ rebounds, as long as he gets 20+ points too.

Close out games are the hardest, especially on the other teams’ home floor. From a combination of calls going thier way, they play harder, comfort level, etc… It’s why almost all the time, close out games in any sport is the toughest to win period, and you see most series ending on the home court of the people advancing, not the people being eliminated. :)
That said, Duncan WILL get more than 1 trip to the FT line, Ginobili hits lights out at home usually, and Parker is at his absolute slashing best And if you think about it, we’ve been facing “elimination games” since Game 3. Since technically, going down 3-0 in a series IS a death sentence. Just ask the Suns ! :D We are 2-1 in that span, and still capable of 2 more :)
And here’s a good tidbit from Mike Wilbon on PTI from the link above - “These Spurs are the exact same Spurs from last year with the exception of Ime Udoka, who is a definite upgrade over whoever they had there last year. These are the same core Spurs that have 2-3 championships. That means they have gone to a Game 7 and won. They have won dating to last year - 2 times in Denver, 3 times in Pheonix, 1 time in Utah, and 2 times in Cleveland. They closed out series on the road 3 times. I guarantee you that they are over this thing with this one ref. They won’t panic, they know what they need to do, and they will get it done! It’s going back to New Orleans!”
the spurs from last year are just that, the spurs from last year. the spurs from this year have been blown out by 18,19 and 22 points and have never been in the game in the fourth quarter in New Orleans this series. additionally, hornets have their secret weapon, if for some reason the old men can turn back the clock and win game 6: http://www.tmz.com/2008/05/14/desperate-times-call-for-desperate-measures/1#comments

I spent all day reading 08 mock drafts, looking up free agents for this summer and reading anything Tiago related. I think that says enough of how I feel about this fucking series.
Fuck that shit. The reason this series has been so frustrating is because it seems clear to me that we are the better team. This isn’t like 2006 when the mavs were nearly even if not even with us. That series was pain and vexing of biblical proportions, but this series has even surpassed that, especially in the vexing department. The hornets are good, but i think any objective observer would agree with a shameless homer like me that the Spurs are a better team. I am oficially revising my heretofore steadfast Spurs in 6 to Spurs in 7…

spurs the better team?
the score tuesday night would indicate otherwise.
by 9wd softhead on May 15, 2008 10:59 AM CDT up reply actions
We all know the Spurs are the better team. They got down in this series thanks to a feverish Tim, and a hobbled Manu, but now they are close to full strength, and they will come back on top.
was duncan ill tuesday night or was that just joey crawford and his big bad whistle intimidating the greatest power forward in the history of the nba? they maybe be the “better” team over the last decade, but over the last week they havent exactly impressed.
by 9wd softhead on May 15, 2008 11:57 AM CDT up reply actions
except in that game on sunday where we had a 20+ point lead in the second quarter and the bugs never got close after that. that game was a bigger blowout than any hornets win this series.
you ain't a beauty but hey you're all right.
it was an epic beating. a thorough ass kicking. but the series is still 3-2 in favor of the hornets. i am intersted to see how ginobili holds up in game 6 with the increased minutes and the short amount of time between games 5 & 6. either way, i think game 6 will be an absolute battle.

WE GET IT
Alright, you think we’re doomed. We got it. You’ve been saying this since down 0-2. Your opinion is noted. But when we pull this out and win this series, I don’t want to hear how you kept the faith because you jumped off the bandwagon a long time ago.
Superman wears Manu Ginobili pajamas to bed.
i’m staying with my same prediction from game 5. boils down to two things:
1) rebounding. when the spurs kept NOOCH off the offensive glass, they won. when they didn’t they lost. spurs did the job on this in game 5 for the first hlaf, then the 3rd qtr blitz hit and they yielded something like 7 offensive rebounds in the quarter.
2) we will go as timmy goes. NOOCH has done a pretty fair job of not having him go off like he did against the suns, even in games 3 and 4 – though he was really good all around in game 4. we will need that tonite for sure.
well folks, its either 3 days of rest – or more than 150. spurs have life here, but they will need another A game to pull back even. i expect an A game fron new orleans and will be surprise if we get anything other than that from them at this point. they didnt play their best game either in game 5, but you could tell they smelled it once they got going. that is very scary to me, but i know the spurs can overcome it.
Happy B-Day yo!
thats most definitley a good omen. I predict the Spurs will win by the number of years old you are.
Hornets 75
Spurs 75 + 4Him’s Age

But I’m afraid that your prediction would mean one of the biggest single-game point differentials in NBA playoff history! :-)

Yeah, a blowout. That’s how much confidence I have in my guys. I don’t even know what adjustments they’re going to make, but they will make them.
Fuck this monkeyshit! Winning this shit in 3 games after being down 3-2 will only make this run to the title more legendary for us. Let the bandwagoners jump! I’ve been with this team since ‘89 which roughly accounts for 70% of my life and the only reason I wasn’t with them before that was because I barely knew the NBA even existed. Our boys aren’t going down the path to failure, they’re going down the path to greatness so you can bet I’m not goin anywhere. I’m gonna sit right here on this wagon till the god damn wheels fall off and then carry that wagon till I can’t anymore! Spurs in 7

I have a rec league game tonight at 8:30, so I’ll miss a good chunk of the game. I considered bailing, but I had a rec league game during game 3 as well, and that turned out all right. You don’t mess with the mojo. If my plan succeeds, I’ll have to talk to the league about scheduling a game for Monday!
Mojo aside, it seems like Timmy can only bring it offensively every other game: he like Big Dave circa 1999. Hopefully he brings it tonight, then for game 7, then doesn’t come back to earth until game 1 of the WCF (we could afford a road loss to open that series :-).

TC has some nice things to say about TD. Can’t decide if I’m going to still hate him or not.
Nope. I still hate him.
Chandler seems like a quality guy… plays hard on D, rebounds, sets picks, etc. even though he doesn’t get any offensive touches other than 2 or 3 oops a game. I’d love to have him on the Spurs; he’s like what I wish Frankie von Missdunk could have been. Plus, saying nice things about TD is never bad.

I’m watching the pre game right now on ESPN and the piece they are doing on CP3 is gross. Compare it to the one they did on Manu. Yes Manu comes from South America, and yes he was never highly scouted but the level of respect that everyone gives to CP3 compared to the lack of respect Manu gets is gross. What has Paul ever won? One playoff series that’s it. Manu won a gold medal with a bunch of reserves in 04 and then followed that with an NBA championship in which he should have been the finals MVP. Since that time Manu has consistently been a top 10 player in the WORLD! No one ever gives him his due. CP3 after a very good rookie year, okay sophomore year and one excellent season and everyone says he has the mind of Magic, in the body of Zeek with this ferocious edge. His edge is that he acts like a damn 2 year old when he doesn’t get his way. I hate CP3. HATE.
Yeah they never mentioned anything about the Olympics, but the Paul story wasn’t horrible. Horry’s was clearly the best.

On the good side, Paul is starting to force some shots. We still haven’t got to 60 by the way

What the fuck is Mike talking about the Spurs lead both game 3 and 4 and they won both those game.

Yeah, we didn’t score much down the stretch there. I think the third quarter will be the big one again.

Manu is hitting his 3’s when he does that he is unstoppable!

or lack there of…. :snicker:....i’m sorry i’ve been watching espn too long
Superman wears Manu Ginobili pajamas to bed.
You know Manu’s wife has to be a nervous wreck. I mean, even if that sideline reporter IS just above average, there’s a constant risk that one of these women will pause mid-question and tackle him. His lure is that powerful.

Well Bowen needs to actually start guarding Peja better..West is a no show tonight and if we stop Peja we will blow them out.

your right Latin..sometimes he tries to do too much instead of the letting the game come to him.

I’m gonna start calling Manu the potato sack after the ” Manu doesn’t tea bag women, he potato sacks them” line from one of our PTR memebers
Superman wears Manu Ginobili pajamas to bed.
I’m with you there, unless that nickname angers the Manu. Then I will likely revert back to “His Royalness.”

You’re going to get banned with talk like that! No, it’s after the quote in the other post about the greatness/power of the Gino.

Duncan cheating off his man to gaurd CFlop?
That is not the game plan.
Spurs are commiting careless turnovers. Unforgivable for a veteran team.
The game plan is to let CFop score 50 and lock everyone else up. He wants to pass. It disrupts the Hornets offense when CFlop is doing all the scoring. The other young guys just stand around and lose their intensity. The stop playing D becasuse they aren’t getting their touches.
Just let CFlop and the Wee Frenchman go head to head.
This cheating off other players to try and stop CFlop is asking for trouble.
The beginning of the third period will be monster. Whoever comes out in the first 5 minutes and takes control will win.
The thing about Manu...
is that he has the balls to take that kind of crazy shots, like that three on the run, that can break a team’s back if they’re made – but just about kill you if he misses.
Don’t worry about the 3rd quarter, we should only worry when we are in New Orleans!

Totally with bones here. Keep roughing them and rotating on D. And I would LOVE to see someone (RoHo is great for something like this, because he’s already out the door and hated anyway) put CP on his ass on a drive.
And I’m not talking an unsportsman FF, I’m talking about a legitamate hard foul on ball that sends a message and causes further pause in Scrappy when driving the lane.

hey, this is the play-offs. our guys will take their share of physical play. you can count on that. we just gotta make sure that they dont get anohter 51 in the second half
That’s just it. We’re TAKING our share of physical play, but not giving enough. We need to show that we own the paint. We have 30 fouls to give among all our bigs, we might as well use them. They employ the same strategy to keep TP out of the lane. Not an injury foul, just a “I’m gonna get up and act tough and prance afterwards when inside my feelings are hurt” kind of play on ball.

why the fuck are they showing this stupid interview with KG again? I already had to see it when the Celtics played the Hawks! And why are they even talking about the Celtics during the Spurs Hornets game?

OK… the real question is do I as a fan make game adjustments? Should I chage jerseys from the Duncan to the Gervin, exchanging Timmy’s success for history? Do I even change my drink from whiskey to beer? I need answers! By the way this all stems from our problems in the 3rd
If you try and take a cat apart to see how it works, the first thing you have on your hands is a non-working cat.
You gotta wait until it’s obvious that changes are needed. Things are flowing now, keep with what’s working. Manu’s VISA jersey is on now, but when things shift the Bowen is on. Keep it rolling. And never switch from whiskey to beer under any circumstance. Only scotch is an acceptable switch here.

why is everyone worried about the 3rd quarter the Spurs play better at home than they do in New Orleans

ATTENTION.
I’ll be starting a new thread for the second half. And I’m going to do it now because I’ll be gone for a bit.
See you chumps over there.

One4TheTheThumb,
I didn’t see your question—> “what are they saying ove there”..
—
We have our share of fans that are blaming the refs but most people want Paul to keep going into the paint and creating from there.
Also, single cover Timmy with Chandler and play more up tempo if you guys ever decide to miss.
Hipuks, get off tis thread and go to the new one.
