Ah my beautiful Spurs..
I've been reading this blog for couple of years now but never really posted anything till now. Just wanted to say hi to my fellow Spurs PTRers and ramble on about my love of the Spurs.
I'm a NYC native but I was never really a basketball fan till Timmy joined the association. I don't know if anyone here remembers but when Timmy was a rookie he used to write weekly (daily? I don't remember) diaries on USA Today. I became an instant TF4L (Timmy Fan For Life) inspite of myself after reading his insightful diaries into working of everyday life in the NBA. Basketball never seemed so... intimate. So I've been following Timmy religiously for the last 10 years or so thru all the ups and downs of the Duncan Era. I don't think I ate the next day after the .04 game and I got silly-happy drunk after I saw Kobe and Fisher crying when we knocked them out. But alas, there have been obstacles in fully indulging my love of the spurs. I've been working in Korea for the past 3 years and its been tough to watch Spurs playoff games. Thankfully, this blog and my fellow PTRers have been god-send. Thank you guys.
Anyway, enough about me and my unhealthy obssession and onto just a couple of thoughts on the current state of Spurs.
On the Suns Series - Previous posts have been much more articulate about the series but I couldn't help but to put my 2 cents in. I feel bad for Nash. I really do. Not for Amare or Shaq since they are bunch of immature idiots who talk too much but I think Nash deserves better than he's got. The man seems decent enough and I respect Nash for his heart and his work ethic. Too bad he had to run into the Spurs buzz saw at the peak of his abilities. Maybe he can come over to the Spurs as a back up in a year or 2 since we are always, always looking for over the hill.. I mean veteran back-up point guards. (I'm looking in your general direction, Nick and Damon!!) We can win him some bling a la Finley. Just a thought.
On the Hornets series - Not much to say since Matt and Stampler will preview this series better than anyone else, I'm sure. Question though. Will Bowen be enough to cover CP3 or do you think we are going to have to double him?
And if we get past Hornets in the 2nd round, here's hoping we get Kobe in the Conf Finals... God, I hate Kobe more than any other NBA player. What a soulless douche!

yo
doubling cp3 is probably a bad idea. whenever the mavs doubled paul in the first round, he’d throw it to the open man for an uncontested bucket. he distributes too well and we need to find another answer than doubling him, i think. can’t wait to see what pop thinks up.
i read this somewhere and i think it might have been the “we have an answer for bonzi this time” fanpost, but we might as well let cp3 do his damage and take away distribution to teammates. we can’t let him drop 15 dimes on us a night and expect to beat the Hornets in a series. Those are just my thoughts, and i am no expert.
I wish i was old enough to have read his journal entries when he first came to the Spurs (he was drafted when i was 10). I didn’t even like basketball then until ‘03, but i always liked Robinson, my dad made sure i looked up to The Admiral when i was growing up.
Anyway, i’m also glad i found this site in the past month. I love the humor, fanaticism, and intelligence. I’ve learned a lot.

This is probably the biggest thing I love and appreciate about PtR- the fanship and community around the world that all contributes and brings great things to the table. If you look at most other basketball blogs, they don’t seem to have the international reach that PtR does, and that’s obviously mostly due to the diversity of players on the team. But I like to think that it’s also because of the quality of the guys on our court, and the honor and character that this team (over it’s entire history) is built on.
It’s a cool family, that’s for sure!! I still think it would be great to someday have a PtR gathering in SA or something for anyone that could attend; maybe after a playoff game or something. Glad you guys are here!

PtR gathering
How about this coming week? I’m down! We can wear our PtR shirts or something. I think that would be cool!

You’ll have to get with Powell, since the majority of us are outside the S. Texas area. Probably too soon of a plan for many of us, but I’d definately be in for a tentative “everyone meet up for beers on the Riverwalk after a title” gathering! Not going to say any more though, because of my respect for the mojo…

Would love to attend a PTR gathering...
I thought about the exact same thing.. how cool would it be to have some beers with my fellow PTRers. I’m seriously considering a trip to San Anton to attend a Spurs playoff game. It would cost an arm and a leg but I think it’ll be worth it to see our golden god in the playoffs before he retires. I’d hate to disrespect the mojo but if we make the finals and we go against Garnett’s Celtics, pencil me in for couple of games in San Anton.

I’m totally in… for either next season or the one after that.
I’m slowly planning a one-week trip to the US just to watch the Spurs. So I’m trying to go in a week with four games, and all relatively close to SA. I’ll let you guys know when I have a date (this will be a year or two from now, so there’s time), and fully expect to meet some of you and go to a game together.
I can’t miss the opportunity to watch Manu and Timmy play live. At least once in my life I want to watch those two guys play 20ft from where I sit.
Of course, with my luck that will be the week in which Parker breaks the mold and goes off for 60pts and 20 assists, which prompts Pop to sit them both and let the Frenchie play one on one for entire game.

Alright but this better be legit. I don’t want the “joke” to be on me and I end up showing up to a supposedly PTR member’s house but instead of finding fellow PTR members, Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC is there waiting with plate full of cookies. “Hey there, you wanna take a seat for a minute…” That would NOT be cool!
Superman wears Manu Ginobili pajamas to bed.

That’s exactly what I was thinking!!! LOL
I’m totally down with this, just wish it was sooner for LatinD. Two years? That’s a long time away! It’s exciting though and it’d be cool to all hang out at a game. We would no doubt establish the mold for “loudest and most obnoxious section of fans.” And that’s a good thing.

I’d love to go sooner. Hell, I’d give my bro’s arm and his better leg to go tomorrow. But the exchange rate is murder on my chances. I’m aiming for next year’s playoffs, although if that’s not possible I’ll have to go during the regular season of the 2009/2010 season.
Sad state of affairs. Regardless, I’m betting we will all still be around. This is a pretty unique site.

Estas en la Argentina, no? En que parte?

Let’s use English, for the sake of the other PTRers, Gino20. Yeah, I’m in Argentina, in Avellaneda, Bs. As. You? Guess the nickname should’ve clued me in.
So… hey there, countryman. Or countrywoman.

I think we’ll treat cp3 much the same way we treated Nash. Showing aggressively on screens, sometimes doubling or have bowen fighting over the screens and follow him into the paint where we do a great job of crowding and forcing tough shots. The good thing about cp3 vs Nash is if we go under high screens at the 3pt line he won’t burn us the way Nash can with a quick tray. Paul needs to be set to hit his three’s where as Nash can be set, leaning, falling….anything and hit his shot with consistency if given space. I hope we destroy them. I’ve hated Chris Paul since he cheap shotted someone in the nuts when he was in college. He was a punk then and he’s a punk now. All of them. They gyrate after every fucking play and think they’re entitled to all this respect like they’ve done something before. I am not thrilled for Tyson to be guarding Timmy since he’s so long but west doesn’t scare me at all, Thomas or Duncan will shut him down. Peja shouldn’t be wide open for threes and Mo Pete is OVERRATED! If we contain Cp3 and don’t let him set everyone up for open three’s and dunks we’ll be fine. Lastly, Raja Bell is FAR better perimeter defender than anyone on the Hornets so Manu should have a good series. I haven’t looked up how he did against them in the regular season but he should fair well.

West doesn’t scare you at all? He looked unstoppable the last two times the Spurs played him (averaging 29.5 points on 60% shooting). The Spurs need to do something to slow him down. I knew Horry and Oberto would be worthless against him, but I thought Thomas would do a lot better job on him. Let’s hope he just needs a few tweaks to alter his defense (like not biting on the pump fakes and letting him drive in for easier shots).
I agree that Mo Pete is overrated, that is, if anyone actually did rate him highly, he was wrong. All you need to do to defend on him is stay up on him and he’s helpless. He also is a weak defender and rebounder.
I also agree that Manu should have a good series. Nobody on the Hornets can stop him. Unfortunately it seems that his injuries are slowing him down.

Yeah, I agree with SMA, there aren’t many other blogs around here on SB Nation that have as much activity and support as this one.
Plus we’re allowed to cuss ;)
