Game Thread #82 - vs Utah
The finale of the regular season. A win gives us the three seed. A loss probably the sixth seed.
Whatever. We get what we get. I'd like to see Manu play and I would like to see our boys play well.
Linix129 is on the recap
(Great, now we have a ridiculous 75 word minimum. Blah, fucking blah, blah, blah. I'm so glad that they are doing this for our benefit right as the playoffs start. Is this place run by football people. Must be)

Score Prediction
Spurs: 103
Jazz: 91
Why don’t we use this game thread as a way to play with the site in order to get ready for the playoffs. Play away, whatever that happens to mean.

Prediction
i hope the rockets lose and the suns win. i don’t want to play the suns first round. ugh.
spurs – 100
jazzzz hands – 96
Bring on the Suns (or whoever)!
The important part of the the groinal/testicular region of Manu will overcome any residual pain to pave the way with 30+ points and home court advantage for at least one round
Spurs 105
Utah 93
If you try and take a cat apart to see how it works, the first thing you have on your hands is a non-working cat.
Bring on the Playoffs...
Spurs 95
Jazz 91
It doesn’t matter who is the opponent in the 1st round, it’s time to bring it. No excuses, just play ball.

SPURS 93

This strange new world frightens and confuses me….
NEED a win here, but even if we have phx 1st, I’m not worried. Let them be overconfident, we feast on pride.
Jazz 98
Spurs 92
Sorry guys. The curse ends tonight.

______________
(Sort of) Interesting facts:

► Previous games: These two teams have met 3 times this season.
→ Dec/11/07 – UT 98 | SA 104 – at San Antonio.
→ Jan/28/08 – UT 97 | SA 91 – at Utah.
→ Apr/04/08 – UTA 90 | SA 64 – at UTA.
► Utah hasn’t won at San Antonio in almost 10 years. The Spurs have taken the last 20 (twenty!) games at home. The last victory by the Jazz was on February 28th 1999 by 101-87.
► San Antonio lost the last 2 against the Jazz (both at Utah). The most recent game, on March 4th, finished 90-64, matching the Spurs’ historical record for least points in a game. Ugh.
► With this victory, the Spurs would assure for themselves the 3rd spot in the conference. However, they’ve lost 3 of the last 6 games, including defeats against Utah by 26 points, LA by 21, and Suns by 17. Double ugh.
► Tony Parker comes from a spectacular game against the Kings. He finished with 32 points, 11 assists and only 1 TO in 37 minutes.
► Manu’s status hasn’t changed. After the game against the Kings, Manu said that he’s ready to come back – but he understood Pop’s prudence.
► Next games for the Spurs:
→ Vs. Utah – Wednesday 16/Apr
→ PLAYOFFS!

Transmissions:

No NBA League Pass broadcast for this one. ESPN will have it, but you should still find direct feeds from one of the sites below:
ChannelSurfing
Roja Directa
Stooge TV
AndromedaNet → Open with IE
For national televised games, Justin TV is always an option. Quality might be poor, though.
(If one of these doesn’t work for you, just try another. And if none of them work, check Stooge’s chat window. Links are published every 5/10 minutes, and you have to paste those links into you WMP’s "open URL" command window. Also, there’re usually P2P feeds available for Sopcast or TvAnts users. Beware of the Chinese announcers, though.)
...And if there’s no other choice:
WOAI – San Antonio Spurs
For the record, I hate this new template already. Can’t find anything on the main page’s layout, and now I couldn’t put the starting lineup because it doesn’t recognize more than one space between words. Crazy.
Spurs 100
Jazz 90
This is a must-win, I agree with Sgtin, CMoney and everybody else. Not that I’m quitting if we lose – I’ll just be truly scared.
what kind of formatting did you need for the lineup?
You might be able to accomplish the “more than one space between words” layout by enclosing the text in <pre> tags. That makes your spaces stay where you put them, and might do the trick for your lineup.

You go that direction; I already went the shaving direction (after LA) and it seems to be working. Nothing will stop the collective power of both of our facial-hair-driven mojos.

I hate predicating the score
So hopefully the Spurs come out being aggressive and Manu keeps attack the rim!

These new two-faced playoff commercials are well done. I can’t wait to see the Ray Allen / Candace Parker one.
I am still laughing about this comment, and jealous I didn’t think of it, and likely will be for days. Just an FYI, Matthew.

Nothing would make me happier than the Spurs being the reason for another Suns ousting especially in the 1st round

my engineering education tells me we should win 120-84, but some dumb ass contractor will fuck it up.
My ability to finally learn trends has me a little worried about the 2nd half still

Yeah, I was pleased to see you jumping on ATS’ bandwagon and joining us with the FINDOG….... until Stuart A. Scott dropped the same reference not 15 minutes later. As far as I’m concerned now having heard that, the name can now burn in hell.

Stuart A Scott is a puss
Matthew, don’t let Sarge intimidate you. Anybody can recognize FinDog whenever it is appropriate.

I’m not trying to intimidate ANYONE, least of all Matthew A. Powell! Quite frankly, I like the name and will overcome my hatred of Scott to use it again, you know I will

finally
its nice to finally see someone lay an egg vs. the spurs. dont get me wrong here, our guys are SMOKIN. if the spurs play like this, they will be damn near impossible to beat. but after a year of getting everyone’s best effort, this is much more relaxing.
on the flip side, utah’s effort is disgraceful. no D, no loose balls and no rebounding. no jazzers are even chasing the ball. now, they are starting to chop at spurs players. class.
of course, as i write this, utah works it back to 20 – but that’s more on us than anything.
end of 3
get manu out NOW.
tony and tim only for the first 4-5 mins of the 4th, if at all. lets see a lot of barry, vaughn, finley and bonner.
What a day!!
I sneak away from my wife and new baby (she gave birth about 10 hours ago to our first child) to check the Spurs-Jazz and it looks like we’re finally playing a good game. 65 points in the first half!! There is a God. And he doesn’t have it out for me.
Congrats, bro. That’s awesome. Now may I suggest “GinobiliMasterofMankind” as your seed’s name? You could call him Gino.

Yeah, congrats, pollack. Another Spurs fan, that’s what the world needs. Turn him (her?) into a Gino homer now.
So, they aired this game and it was actually pretty good. I really like the ESPN mojo – hope they cover the first round series against the whiners.
Anyway. Mystery’s over: we get Phoenix. How do you guys feel about that? Me, I’m scared shitless, truth be told, but mostly because that’s my permanent state of being throughout the playoffs.
I think they’re a tough opponent. It won’t be easy. But if Shaq breaks down and we can contain Amare even a little bit, we can win it. The first two games will be key.
Look at it this way: if we lose, we can be 100% certain that the Suns will be going too in the next round of the round after that. That 7-men team just isn’t built to last. (I know, it’s petty, but it helps me.) If we win, though, we can declare our paternity over those pesky Suns fans for the rest of the decade – sooo sweet.
Hang in there, fellas.
And so it begins...
Agree completely here. The suns have FAR more to lose in this series and thus tons of pressure, that’s for sure. It would be so vintage if we can get through them and hang the “you tried to buy a series win and gave up on your original system and you’re still failures” tag on them; you don’t come back from that.
Was having a conversation tonight about the ‘06 postseason, and pondering the similarities. I truthfully believe that the main reason (obviously in addition to other reasons like- bad coaching, bad officiating, a psychologically handicapped squad, etc.) dallas lost to the Heat was because of the series with us. Dallas had geared themselves up all year for facing us and defeating us. It was their championship, their holy grail. I remember thinking at the time, that they seemed as the postseason went on to care less about winning it all and more about beating their self-appointed “rivals,” the SPURS. After beating us, they had climbed the mountain; there wasn’t that extra drive and the Heat exploited that to embarass them in the Finals.
Flash to now. What’s the difference between that situation and the situation the suns are now in? The main reason for making the shaq trade was to defeat us. They’ve talked about and commented to the press about and bitched about and rehashed last year’s series so often it’s gotten nearly stale, and are clearly focused completely on winning a series against the SPURS. True champions, like San Antonio, are never heard or seen in this way. You don’t hear us focusing solely on one opponent or celebrating needlessly; we’re driven to the final prize alone, with small battle victories along the way to get us there. It just seems that phx has found the appetizer they’ve hoped for, and will likely fill up too much to even be able to eat the meal.
What I’m saying, and far more lengthy and rambly, is what LatinD said. IF phx happens to get through us, their season will be a success in arizona. They will be quickly disposed of in the next round, and be left wanting again, and it will provide joy to all of us. I don’t see phx getting through us though. Not enough experience, too many inconsistencies, and their game is STILL not made for the postseason. I think we match up well with them, have home court, and know what we need to do to move to the next round. Phx still feels insecure, and feels more pressure. Everybody is nervous about this series, but I’m holding to the faith. I think we treat phx as we always have- let Steadywhiner get his points, keep the canadian from 10-15 assists per game (his scoring is not the threat, his getting everyone else involved IS), D up everyone else, and don’t allow cherry-picking points. Amare can’t beat us alone, but with Barbo, Bell, or Hill he can. The variable will be shaq, but if MadEyeberto can use 12 fouls per game to contain him to 8/10, it’s gonna be a great series. SPURS in 6.

the real season
I’m not worried about the matchup with the Suns. When Shaq is in the game, the Spurs need to push the ball!!!!! Get easy baskets. Tonight was the first time in a while, the gang got easy buckets. Spurs in 6.

BE NOT AFRIAD
GUYS,
We can absolutely do this (and by this I mean beat the Suns). As far as one for the thumb goes, let’s be true Spurs fans and focus on one game at a time. I’ll have a jazz-spurs recap on my blog tomorrow if anyone wants to hear my not-drunk-of-my-ass thoughts (I would post now but I’d make zero to no sense). I can’t wait for the playoffs. Just remember, the regular season is b.s. This is our time now.

Mysa.com reports we’re opening up the playoffs Saturday at 2pm.
We’re not good enough for the Sunday ABC games.
