Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston

Garnett and Parker are out.  Suck.  I have to work 11-7:30.  Double suck.

My schedule is absolutely ridiculous for the next couple months, so even if I wanted to write a recap I doubt I would have the time.  As for stampler, I'm not sure what's up with him.  Hell, I don't pay the man.  I just presume he's busy livin'.

So it's time for you to write the recap.  Claim your game in the comments.  Pick two if you want.  Write it up in the diaries and I'll move it over to the main page.  I truly do enjoy reading the thoughts of PtR members.  Except when they disagree with mine.

Thanks and stuff.  Here's the schedule:

10 Sun     at Celtics (krukow)
11 Mon     at Raptors
13 Wed     at Cavaliers (JamesR)
19 Tue     BOBCATS (bones)
21 Thu     at T-Wolves
23 SAT     HORNETS
25 MON     HAWKS
28 THU     MAVERICKS (kalone and JamesR)

MARCH

2 Sun     at Nets
4 TUE     NETS (efantich)
6 THU     PACERS
7 Fri     at Nuggets (kalone)
9 Sun     at Suns (bones)
10 MON     NUGGETS
12 Wed     at Hornets
14 Fri     at Pistons (KidDynamite)
15 Sat     at 76ers (BUTD)

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
I'll be happy to try writing one for the Celtics game tomorrow.  I can't get nba league pass on my cable, so I can only do ones on abc/espn/tnt, but I'll try tomorrow and see what happens...
Also, 1030am is too early to drink vodka (though not to early to think about drinking vodka), so I'll be sober for it.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
i'll do the feb. 28 mavs game and the march 7 nuggets game.

i work with these diehard denver fans that never gave a shit before they drafted anthony. i hate the nuggets and i hate the denver post.

thankfully, even they can admit woody paige is an idiot.

you ain't a beauty but hey you're all right.

I'm going to that Mavericks game, you mind if I do the recap?

I'd also like the Cavs game on the 13th.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
The Knicks game proved one thing that even Pop noticed...the midget brothers can not stop anybody. The NY gaurds were just shooting over them at will. I believe they made three straight three pointers before Pops pulled both and went with Bowen on the opposing point. Credit to Pop, but I believe that many of us already knew that little coaching gem. Stoudamire is a disgrace on D.

The last play where Fin Fin hit the big three, the sickness made another Pistol Pete shovel pass from the hip. He is an All-Star, Manu's assist totals are getting to almost double digit levels. Props to the Horror. He was drilling the threes like a mother. Something must have pissed him off, like the Spurs play of late. Hope he keeps it together physically. Still, the first half defense of the Spurs is embarrasing. Everyone was acting like it was just some fluke occurance. Like, oh these things just happen. But, there was an article in this mornings paper about how the sickness was angry at the lack of D. You know if the Express News is picking up on it, it must be a giant earth shaking deal. It took them a long long time to notice that the Horror was playing like crap. Got to love the old sports reporters. Pop has the local guys pretty much in his pocket. Only the Ninja dare call out the Spurs in his play by play.

My advice for the Celtic game...keep a hook ready for midget one and midget two. They start to get blown past and shot over, yank them but fast.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
i will be happy to pick up a few games.  i volunteer for the charlotte game on the 19th and march 9 at phoenix.  i could proabably pick up another one or two down the line if games go begging.

i'll pick the spurs today since KG is out, but it wont be easy by any means.  agreed on the quick hook for midge(s) when necessary.

let's say:

SA 94
Bos 92

bruce on pierce except when chicken ray gets two buckets in a row and needs an elbow to his kidney.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
It sounds like we need a collaborative effort for the next couple months.

There is no way anybody is going to remember who claimed what.  So, I propose the following two ideas:

  1.  People volunteer to do the recap on the game thread.  Then we'll know right then and there.  We'll just need to make sure the game thread is up a day in advance.  Matthew, I can help with that.  I'm a loser who sits at the computer all day.  If you have already chose a game, plan to do it.  Just try to remember to mention it on the game thread.

  2.  I think we should have dueling recaps.  There's no reason to not have 2-3 people doing a recap on one game.  It could be fun just as long as everybody's opinions are the same as Matthew's.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
oh yeah, game prediction:
Spurs 98
Celts 93

This entirely a guess.  This could go any way, as these guys match up horribly against us w/o KG.

by Krukow on Feb 10, 2008 12:00 PM CST   0 recs

Bring On The Mean Green
SA:  95
BOS: 90

It's gonna be difficult for Bruce to guard both Ray Ray and Paul Pierce. Without Garnett, those two will be putting up plenty of shots. If the Spurs are to win, they are gonna have to hope those guys go cold.

I officially hate the Celtics and wish them the worst. I hope their "Big 3" never win a championship in their careers. I'm so fucking pissed off...

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
I hate Marc Jackson calling games...the worst out of all of them.  Try saying something without using a cliche. I love how he defended to

Damon Stoudamire is pretty much worthless. How many wide open 3's can one guy miss?

34 FT for Celtics compared to 13 for Spurs?  Are you kidding me?  How about calling of those 10,000 slaps the Celtics were doing for a foul?

Ginobili:  Take the ball to the basket and stop launching 3 pointers all the time.  What happened to you?  You were playing amazing at the beginning of the year.

We obviously need Barry back because the only bench guy giving us offense is Finley.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
Damn it! Damn it! Pop played both of the damn midgets in the 4th period. WTF? Boston was abusing both of them on the offensive end and not even bothering to D up on them at all. The Celtic guards were constantly dropping below the free thrown line to double Duncan. Unreal. Did Pop down a couple of bottles of Earnest and Julio before the game? I saw a couple of the players with odd looks on their faces during the time outs when Pop would begin to talk.

Nice game by Timmeh also. Lets see, let me post up 20ft from the basket, let some chump ass mascot of a power forward bully me way out, I will turn my head to the right, turn my head to the left, be sure and give the Boston guards (who are cheating off one of the midgets) plenty of time to come over for a vicious double team. At that point, I will fire the ball through a wicket of arms and hands getting it deflected. Simply pathetic.

Udoke is in a funk.

Somebody needs to let Mr. Potato Head know that Dave Robinson is retired and all other shot blockers have been let go. There is no shot blocker to funnel his guy to. Yet, he continues to press guys on the perimeter that he does not have the foot speed to keep up with and then lets them blow right past him for easy layups. For heaven's sake, just lay off the guy and protect the paint. Give him the damn jump shot if he wants it. No more layups!

Oh, by the way, small ball sucks. YOU CAN NOT WIN WITH SMALL BALL. The Spurs had a championship fall in their laps last year. The Mavs got bounced early, the Suns and Jazz play a crap version of small ball that is worse than the Spurs, the Pistons got dumped in the eastern finals and the Cavs showed up with a goofball of a front line. Pop and Buford are living in a fantasy land if they think they can repeat with this shit. Think I am way off base? OK, check out the shooting chart for the Celtic game.

http://www.nba.com/games/20080210/SASBOS/gameinfo.html?nav=scoreboardhome

There were so many points scored below the dotted circle it looks like a blot test. Disgusting. Pop, you son of a bitch. I blame you for this. Also, way to motivate the team. I like the last play where the Spurs lost the rebound off the missed Celtic free throw. Four Celtics were around the ball with no Spur in site. What a joke. Lack of hustle, lack of effort, a couple players who are virtual ghost on the court, bad defensive scheme, a desperate addition of a Nick Van Excel look a like and nobody running the team at all. We have no floor general. Only Ginobes is capable of making any type of pass and his game is not running the point even though he is trying like hell to. Let me put this in simple terms, opponents are shooting layups and dunks, we are shooting rolling hooks and fade away jumpers while clanking open threes. Who do you think is going to win that battle?

Also, anyone catch Van Gundys commentary during the game? That guy doesn't even try to hide the fact that he hates the Spurs. I would love to hang him up like a piñata and take wooden stick to his ass.

Once again, I am just sick at my stomach at the awful coaching and the dead leg old Spurs. We got our ass kicked by team led by a dude called "Big Baby" that is cartoon figure and by a Celtic team that came off a tough game against the T-Wolves with no Garnet that they have totally dominated in the past. Oh, the rodeo road trip is when the Spurs are supposed to be coming together and giving a shit? I don't see it.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
what is with all the whining on this board?

So what Damon missed his 3 pointers what player hasn't shot poorly? He has had two great games and he shoots poorly against the Celts and you're calling him out?

Kind of hard for Manu to attack the rim when the defense collapses on him, what should he do run through players?

The team plays small ball because our bigs are horrible look at our Bigs: Oberto, Elson, Horry, and Bonner, we have to play small ball when one of these guys doesn't step up which is 99% percent of the time.

The game was competitive considering how poorly we played...Give the team some damn credit, they  were one 3 pointer away from tying it.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- at Boston
Since we're going for dueling recaps, I can do the following games:
March 7 Denver
March 9 Phoenix
March 23 Dallas
March 30 Houston
April 4 Utah
April 9 Phoenix
April 13 LA
April 16 Utah

Cuz I checked and those are all on abc/espn/tnt.  Plus, it was fun writing a review.  Now I can claim I'm not talking to myself during games, I'm "taking notes."

Also, I will try to do April 14 at Sacramento as it's the closest NBA city to me and I was hoping to go to the game.  However, students loans make me poor, so I may not make it.
