The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged

For the record, if the Suns trade Shawn Marion for Shaquille O'Neal they drop to no better than the 7th seed in the Western Conference and I would not be shocked to see them drop out of the playoffs altogether.

Your thoughts?

Re: The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged
This actually makes me sad as the Suns are the one contender I can count on us to beat no matter what in a 7 game series.  Now we probably won't see them unless it's in the first round, and that's usually when we're punking the nuggets.

So I am sad about this trade.

Miami, however, if they can keep marion and get a good draw in the draft lottery, could be good again next year.

Re: The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged
A 7 seed is possible for any team in the West that hits a cold streak.  I really don't think the Suns helped themselves at all.  They are much worse defensively with Shaq and they have lost their offensive identity if they start feeding him the ball in the post.

Re: The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged
What an asinine trade!!! Is Steve Kerr trying to help the Spurs out? Seriously, are the Suns really depending on Shaq to provide a defensive presence? Shaq has been in foul trouble in damn near every game he has played in this season. I heard someone on ESPN, I think it was Jalen Rose, say that Shaq still demands a double team so it will help Phoenix's half court offense???? Really??? What games have people been watching this season? Unbelievable!

Re: The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged
I would mainly play Shaq when Nash isn't on the floor and run the ball through the post.  However, that dude's ego is so inflated of course he's going to start and play more minutes than he should.

If the Suns don't win this year (very unlikely) they are basically done as a team.  I know Nash's window is getting tight but with Shaq around next year they could fall apart a lot faster.

after the corrupt and tainted series the spurs managed last spring, you'd think you'd show a better attitude

Re: The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged
Ha! You think the Spurs are satisfied with that? softly pets his cat while sitting in his evil lair You fool! All of this is part of a much bigger conspiracy than you coul ever understand. Steve Kerr playing for the Spurs and winning championships was all designed so that when he became the Suns GM, he would make a shitty trade like this. You see, Kerr is nothing but a mind controlled empty shell of man, whose orders are given by the utmost upper echelons of Spurs management. And the Goverment? HAHAHA, let me laugh at your pathetic notion of democracy. If only you knew how Gregg Popovich was behind it all... You see, a team as dangerous as the Suns, with its soft defense, soft psyche, and soft players, was too much of a danger to the Spurs, and thus Pop decided to set up an extremely complicated conspiracy so that the Suns would never be champions. To the outside it just looks like the Suns don't have enough defense to be champs. It's the perfect plan. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to feed my sharks with lasers attached to their heads.

Re: The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged
You forgot to mention when Coach Pop put on a ref shirt, grabbed a whistle and made every call to help his team. Then someone (I think it was Tim Duncan) wrote a new clause into the NBA rule book that said players leaving the bench area during an altercation automatically get a minimum one game suspension.
Oh, and you also forgot to mention the part about Cheap Shot Rob hip checking Nash, then grabbing his Nintendo controller to make Nash overreact to the foul, followed by Horry using that same controller to throw Raja Bell's arms into Rob's face, and then the dagger--using a separate joystick to pull Stoudemire's and Diaw's legs a distance of many feet from the bench, ensuring they would be suspended for a game, per new NBA regulations as put into effect by one Timothy Duncan.

I can say, without a doubt, that is your worst post ever.

Or I'm retarded and missed the point.

Somebody just shoot me already..It's pathetic how many idiots that have on that Other Spurs message board!!! I've been arguing  about how bad this trade has been for the past 2 days and the only counter argument I get is look at what Shaq did in the past..like how he dominated in 2005..etc
Well no shit he was younger then!

I'm sorry for ranting but I needed to vent out my frustration.

Kerr is moron..I can't believe they pulled the panic button! They could have kept Thomas who only made 8 million per year and still had Marion on their team.

Nice move Steve, are you trying to surplant Isiah, and Mchale as the worst Gm in the NBA?

Re: The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged
I think time will tell if Kerr made the right move.  The most important thing is that he realized that there was no way that his team was going to win constructed as it was.  His team has barely squeezed by a weak LA team in the playoffs the past few years and later fell to either the Spurs or Mavs.  The same thing would happen this year as well.

I'll give it to Steve for trying something new.  It could be a genious move, but only time will tell.

The best example of what I think they could be compared to is the ShowTime Lakers in the 80's.  The team was all run and gun led by Magic Johnson.  Kareem was about 40 at that time and he didn't slow them down a bit.  Kareem would rebound and outlet to start the break.  But he showed his real value when it became playoff time on both the offensive and defensive end.

I think Shaq can make the same impact.  We all know this is not the Shaq of 1999.  He isn't going to be asked for that production.  His job will be to fill up the middle on defense, rebound the ball, and be the 3rd or 4th best option on offense.  Then in playoff time when the games slow down he will make everyone around him better by commanding double teams and fouls.

It could work.  I can admire a GM taking a risk to better the team that was winning alot of games but going nowhere.

Re: The Possible Shaquille O'Neal Trade, Abridged
I was actually thinking about that very same point with Isiah as GM,

The similarities are there - everyone has always described Kerr as "witty, charming, and intelligent"... pretty much virtue of his ability to give a good after-game interview for many a championship teams.  Isiah Thomas - also considered charming and intelligent as a key player on a championship team - and with a wonderful boyish smile added in.  We all know how that's turning out with NY, tho.

Exactly what did Steve Kerr ever do to earn his GM-in-waiting stripes?  I mean, he was a good commentator, but, c'mon... when was the last time John Madden or Bob Costas got offered anything like a GM position?

Honestly, I'm beginning to think that any NBA player who is actually capable of using grammatically correct english can easily get themselves pushed onto the list of potential executives regardless of any other qualifications.  Expectations are loooooow.

If mocking Marv Albert was a career move, then my dad could have been a commentator by the mid 80's.
