Rock N Roll.  But it is Game Thread #56!  Not 46!

I'm pissed.  I can't get my wireless working.

TNT just did a small tribute to an employee who recently lost a 21 year old son... you could tell Ernie Johnson actually meant what he was saying.

They just ran a graphic showing that assist and fast break pts are up with Kidd.  They neglect to mention that points per possession are down.

Nowitzki just shoved the ref.  Seriously.  Just shoved him.  He was obviously just joking around, but you can't shove a ref, can you?  The ref looked like a big kid just stole his lunch money in front of all the popular girls.

Dude.  Looks like you are all alone on here.

Manu missed a bunch at the rim and got NO calls.

Dallas did get some calls.  Oh well.

Do you think Doug Collins is having a hard time calling the game with J-Kidd's privates in his mouth?  Or do you figure Kidd's wife has Doug Collins privates in a vice grip?  Get Craig Sager on it.

by my count Manu was 2-3 on bank jump shots, 1-2 on 3's, 1-1 on other jumpers, and 0-3 on layups/dunks

Half time recap:

Duncan and Manu have 35 on 14-23.  The Spurs have only 1 TO are only tied.  Why?  The non-Big Three, who shall from now be none as "The Rest of the Team," or ROTT, are 2-13.  And Brandon Bass is killing us.  6-7.

Re: Game Thread # 56 -- vs. Dallas, Part II
The officials are starting to call it tight.

Tim needs to set up way closer to the hoop. Fight for post position deep in the paint. Some of the offensive sets have been horrifying for the Spurs.

bass is a very talented guy - we need to keep a body on him.  better shooter than rebounder and dallas needs another rebounder.  bass would be a perfect foil to lay along side tim.

I don't like the offensive sets at all. The Spurs are just  holding the ball around half court while Tim is being fronted by Bass.

Love the Wee Frenchman taking it to the hoop breaking Dirts ankles.

Re: Game Thread # 56 -- vs. Dallas, Part II
This was a great win. Manu shot badly, and we still won. How's that not a great game?

And what about those stooges running into each other when they tried to foul Finley? Way to go, Dampier. Also, how sweet was it that Kidd didn't go in in the final play?

Vintage Timmy. What a winner.

If we can beat them with Manu and Tony playing so so, we can beat them anywhere, anytime. This was a playoff-intensity game, probably one of the first games of this kind we've had this season, and we won it.

Go Spurs!

Nice ass win.  We executed down the stretch and Dirk couldn't score with Tony on him.  That's a quality win for the Black & White.

Ol' FinDog missed the 3 in the corner near the end but it looked good.  Last year I'm not even sure he would have taken it.  FinDog is starting to get the eye of the assassin against his old team, he used to pucker a little.

Re: Game Thread # 56 -- vs. Dallas, Part II
We gotta get the stats on this....

It occurred to me around dirk's 67th FTA that looking at his career stats and pulling out FTM/FTA from his scoring average, would he even be a 12-point/game player?  I really think there's something to this, and we need to broadcast this info everywhere in the hopes of better called games.

I'm accustomed to seeing high disparities when we play dallas, but maybe public knowledge of just how overrated Heir Flop is might help all teams out on the officiating end from this point forward.

Good win guys, looking forward to the comments and write-up.

PS- Thanks a bunch for the running blog, Matthew; great job and very needed tonight!

Here's some early stats on Heir Flop, just from tonight's game:

Flopmeister Wolfenstein - 17 of 21
the San Antonio Spurs - 16 of 22

Re: Game Thread # 56 -- vs. Dallas, Part II
Flopmeister Wolfenstein and Heir Flop have me laughing aloud.  man, a new nickname is born (wipes tears from eyes).

Spurs should Jordan Rules him the next time we see them.  Dirk is very much the anti-Manu in that way.  He might get a lot of throws, but he'll start fading away from Tony at half court by mid-third quarter.

Thanks very much to Matt for the forum and the running commentary. There is sometimes a litle in-game banter on the game threads, and that is very cool, but it pales in comparison to watching it with you guys tonite. Cool stuff.
