Re: Darryl Dawkins Channeling a Drunk Forrest Gump
Maybe I'm just a lonely loser with nothing better to do on a Saturday night, but I thoroughly enjoyed the dunk contest.  Every year I thoroughly enjoy watching the non-participating players react to the dunks.  Anyways.  Back to studying for a genetics test tomorrow.

And I thought I was the only lonely loser... Hey, the dunk contest was sick, the birthday cake dunk and the superman were amazing. Oh, and did you see Timmy shooting the three in that first competition? Who knew...

Chocolate Thunder's speech was riveting
All-Star Saturday was pretty sweet, but am I missing something on the Superman "dunk?" He THREW the ball in. Like a powerful layup. What was so great about that? Otherwise, the dunks and Kapono's shooting and the other contests were nice.

And here's my Darryl Dawkins memory. For my 13th birthday, me and a friend and my dad went to a Globetrotters "game." It was actually pretty cool--to me it was the best sporting event I had been to at least up until that point. Anyway, Dawkins was on the Trotters, and before the game my sister made a sign that had quotes of his like "yo mama" and it urged him to break the backboard and stuff like that. After the game, me and my buddy went by the team bus and we saw Darryl and gave him the sign. He got on the bus and read it. (If you finished reading this story, I'll give you an imaginary pat on the back.)

Re: Chocolate Thunder's speech was riveting
To me, he fact that he was able to elevate far enough above the rim to be able to throw it in like he did made it all the more impressive.  He was, like, 5 feet away from the basket when he started throwing it down.

It's more difficult to do what he did, not less.  Try it on a 7-foot rim for yourself if you disagree.

chaos... panic... pandemonium... my work here is done.

I was most impressed with the childlike joy Dwight Howard displayed in his approach to the contest.

Re: Chocolate Thunder's speech was riveting
Understandable. But it's a "dunk" contest, not a "difficulty" contest. If that were the case he could shoot a full-court shot over his head with his back to the hoop and he would be justified in getting a 50 because it's difficult. But it's a dunk contest, not H-O-R-S-E

dunk
Matthew, I feel you on that. And overall I thought the dunk contest and all the Saturday stuff was tight.
