Game Thread #30: Vs. Grizzlies

So we got our Christmas Miracle after all. Once again, in Mason we trust.

You'll have to excuse the half-assed preview, but I'm out of town at a cybercafe and it's 5 AM. I promise to do a proper job with the Bucks preview, since by then I'll be back from visiting the family, and afterwards Sir ATS should be back to take over with his usual panache.

So look forward to that.

Breakdown

  • Point Guard - Tony can ball, even though SiMA isn't wrong. Lowry? Not so much.
  • Off Guard - Can we stop claiming Rose is the best rookie? OJ is a real scoring threat and he had great games againts us both times we played this year. It's also true that in the last few games he hasn't been nearly as brilliant, and - he's not Manu. Let's try to keep him covered, though, just in case.
  • Center - Darko 1.0 (the original, accept no imitations) was starting last game, but then he went and broke a knucle. So I expect him to be out for a month or so, and Marc Gasol to get back the starting position. That Darko 1.0 and Darrell Arthur both got the nod over Marc is damning enough.
  • Power Forward - Darrell Arthur doesn't seem to be a good basketball player, and he barely did anything against the Spurs in the two matchups this season. Red Rocket should get his points.
  • Small Forward - Rudy Gay scored at will in our last encounter. Also, he's not Finley.
  • Bench - "Mason" suddenly seems like a great name for my firstborn. Hill can play against this team, and has proven as much.
  • Coach - So who could we pick over Pop in this league? Seriously. I can only think of ties against the best hall-of-fame coaches. For further reference check this fanpost regarding Pop's win record.
  • Intangibles - The Grizzlies are 8-8 at home and 2-11 on the road. Can we read something in this stat? I don't like to admit it, but I think we can: they always suck, but they try real hard at sucking when on the road. The Spurs are confident, and have won all the games they were supposed to win this season.
  • Mojo - Santa is on our side. The Mojo battle was won before it started.
  • Winners - Spurs will finish their year winning, and they only have themselves and the piece-of-cake schedule to thank.

Keys To The Game

  • Suckitude - We sucked against the Suns. Well, except for those final 4.5 seconds.
  • Softness - Winning on the road at Phoenix on Christmas? On national TV after losing to the Hornets and the Magic? At the buzzer? Okay... I guess we're not at hard mattress level.
  • Hill - Hill can lick his own elbow, that's how good he is.

I wasn't able to find much. Either this cybercafe's google is broken, or Memphis needs more bloggers. Please let me know if you guys can find any other sites to put here:
