Game Thread #27: Vs. Kings
I appreciate ATS more and more every day. Whenever you are, your next margarita is on me.
Tonight we have the first game of a back-to-back, and it would be great if we could finish this by the third quarter. Knowing the Spurs, though, it'll probably come down to the final minute with Tony, Manu and Timmy making clutch plays on both ends of the floor, and we'll have nothing left in the tank tomorrow against the Timberwolves.
(Another team that gets it. Wolves: scary as hell.)
More rambling and silly predictions after the jump.

Keys to the game
Some other readingApparently there're not as many people in Sacramento as in Canada, but what the Sacramento blog arena lacks in quantity it makes up in quality. SB Nation's very own Sactown Royalty is a pretty nifty blog. And it's not just the hundreds of interesting posts and PTR-like banter, no. Just click on the link and scroll down till game #27's thread.
Other things of possible interestI wanted to share with you this quote:
Natt on Beno Udrih, quoted by Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News. (Thanks to Sactown Royalty - hope they don't mind my blatant theft. Even though I'd linked to this article above, I'd missed this gem.) "Hunger". That's just how I would describe Beno. Then again I can't be too mad about Beno when he's the reason The Best Gif In The Entire World exists:
Recap: No one has this one, I believe. If you feel like making Beno cry, this is your chance. Guidelines. |

A friend of mine’s father always refered to Gino as the “Italian Assassin.” Mostly because my friend’s Dad is Itailian and because Manu can ball….and oh yeah, he is a basketball Assassin.
Kenny Natt is the Sacto Interim coach?!?!? Wow. Wonder what other miscellaneous 70s NBAers will turn up? Kevin Grevey? Brian Winters? Alvin Adams? Goo Kennedy?

Wow, bones. Those old NBA references made my heart go aflutter. Those were the good old days, except for the awful physical play, the horrible uniforms, the utter lack of defense, and Jack Ramsey’s sport coats.
And Doug Moe. I hated that guy.

It was a tough choice, really. Especially because Paul gets so much credits for the Beatles’ lyrics, when John later claimed all he did was Yesterday. But as I said, I prefer George.

I gotta go with Bren on this one.
Manu has to be Paul.
However, if it were U2, then Manu would definitely be Bono.

am i the only one who feels uncomfortable giving final score predictions? i feel like i’m jinxing them…
by sleep research facility on Dec 22, 2008 6:35 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
No jinxing here. It’s been done for eons, and it’s completely legit pre-game. It’s DURING the game that score predictions, individual play, potential outcomes, etc. cannot be discussed. When that happens, you’re actively engaging in “adaming” the team. In addition, score predictions ARE monitored. If you choose to repeatedly predict against San Antonio, you will be flagged. Or flogged. Whichever, they’re both bad.
We lose no mojo when making predictions. If you feel a lack of peace about it though, I recommend abstaining. The gut is the best indicator of mojo, and going against that invites badness.

i know its been done for ever, but personally i’ve never liked making predictions about sporting events (ever since i was a little kid when i think i made a prediction and the person/team i picked to win got thrashed).
i don’t care that anyone else does it, i just feel if i make a prediction, its bad karma.

I really hope this is a blowout, the win against the Raptors wasn’t satisfying. This would be like going out with a fat chick with a cute face after a dry spell, you know those ones, the ones you go, wow, if she lost some weight she’d be very attractive, but then when she actually loses weight her body goes skinny and her face remains chubby and then it just looks like a ridiculous human bobblehead doll and you wish she would go back to the way she was before but are afraid you’d look like a chubby chaser weirdo if you actually ask her to put on more weight so you just shut up about and remember the old saying, " be careful what you wish for".
I got a little sidetracked, the point is, it would be good for our confidence.

Movie Spurs
O.K. If they ever made a movie about our phenomenal team, which actors would you choose to portray our team and coaching staff? (O.K., I know it won’t happen because it’s the San Antonio Spurs – but dream with me for a little while…)
I bring this up because every time I see the new Clint Eastwood promo for Gran Torino, I think of Greg "Get off My Lawn" Popovich. Exemplary casting don’t you think?

Funny that Manu tried to alley oop Timmy…

Pangio Kuhli " Kuhli Loach". Pretty cool little guys that resemble snakes. They can withstand higher temperatures and have a spine on in front of their eyes for defense. They like to burrow in the substrate, and there’s stories of fishkeepers that have thought they lost some Kuhli Loaches, only to find them years later under their undergravel filter, having bred and formed colonies.

why’s it coming out of a pastry in the second image?
by sleep research facility on Dec 22, 2008 8:45 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I believe it’s a ceramic pot, as it’s not common practice to put pastries in one’s fish tank.

really? that’ll explain why my fish all died after i filled the tank with danishes…

Hey, we all make mistakes. My first fish tank, I forgot to add water, how stupid did I feel when the fish started flopping around gasping for oxygen.
by Hipuks on Dec 22, 2008 8:51 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
My first (and only) fish tank, I was 6 and Dad had to change the water. He did it just fine, filling it with tap water. Cold water. For tropical fish.
They died.
