Breakdown

  • Point Guard - I love Calderon, I really do - but there's one, maybe two, point guards better than Tony, and José isn't one of them. That said, Tony's been playing like crap, so.
  • Off Guard - Kapono's a good shooter, and a good player all around, but Manu's the father of my future triplets. No contest. (Manu doesn't start? Meh. Replace his pic for Mason's in your head if you want.)
  • Center - I felt compelled to shit all over ATS's template and put Timmy at power forward, if only to compare him to Bosh, which is the logical thing to do. However, adding L10, Streak and Mojo was enough for me, so I'll settle for saying this is a joke, because Duncan is a GOAT candidate and O'Neal effed up the Raptors' chemistry.
  • Power Forward - Bonner shoots 15 times one day, 5 the next. Considering he was completely cold the first day and shooting well the next, I won't insult Chrish "Vanilla Duncan" Bosh by comparing him to the Red Rocket. Bosh's the Raptors' franchise, despite his inadequacies.
  • Small Forward - Finley is back in my doghouse, because he's no good to us when he can't shoot. And he can't right now, like in the beginning of the season - boy, did he trick me with that 10-game stretch of non-suckage. Jamario Moon, on the other hand, is GOD. So Moon wins.
  • Bench - Andrea "Darko Two" Bargnani and Anthony "No layup" Parker vs. Potential and Mace? I'll pick our boys any day. I only hope that Hill gets more minutes - especially Finley's.
  • Coach - I think Pop is approximately 1000 times more experienced that the rookie. Other than that, I really don't know anything about Triano, other that he's 2-6 with his new team. It's Beard time.
  • Intangibles - Our guys will be itching to put the last two disasters behind, and the Raptors lost yesterday to the Oklahoma City (no, really). Meanwhile, their own fans are actually booing them in contested games, and they seem to be wilting under the high expectations everyone had for them after a great 2007-08 run.
  • Winner - We'll win this one. (Read: If we don't win this one, I'll slit my effing wrists.)

Keys To The Game

  • Suckitude - We've been sucking, but they've outdone us handily. There's nothing like losing to the Thunder to reach new levels of low.
  • Softness - Mothers would lay their fragile babies on top of our roster right now, that's how soft we are again. I blame TV for paying attention to us.
  • Rebounds - We've been pretty good in this area after those few games where everybody and their mother seemed capable of grabbing offensive rebound after offensive rebound from us, then dishing the ball out to a guy planted beyond the arc, and making the backbreaking three. The Raptors, on the other hand, have been consistently weak, and it's turned into a big issue. I expect the trend to continue, despite Moon's help.

So ATS will be away till the 30th. The lucky bastard is going on vacation.

In the meantime I’m afraid you’re stuck with me writing the previews, unless Powell at some point drops down from heaven riding a beam of light and takes over. Things I need to know, in case there’s an HTML freak out there:

  • How do you go to another paragraph without a blank line in between them? ‘Cause that’s what did.
  • How do you add YouTube videos using HTML?

by LatinD on Dec 20, 2008 2:10 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

wonderful preview

please go ahead and write a recap. i can post my thoughts here about the game here. nothing humorous really, as there are plenty who are funnier//wittier than myself. i don’t have a camera, but i think one of my friends will bring one. we’ll see what i can do.

the Spurs do not defeat you so much as they grind you into tiny shards of psychological wreckage.

This is the best game thread ever.

Glad you figured everything out. Your paragraph spacing all looks good to me. I don’t think you can reduce the spacing between the headings.

You should be able to use the embedded html from youtube and paste it in to your post.

Thanks, ATS. I’ve been reading and there’s a “br” tag that should work. Thing is, I can’t seem to edit the post. I click on “edit”, edit it, and then save the changes, but nothing seems to happen. I just can’t figure out why it doesn’t work.

I’ll have to try adding the YouTube links in the next one.

If they lose this game there’s something wrong. This SHOULD be win number 9 in a row (I think) ? A new win streak begins tonight.

Spurs should win this one…..last thing we need is another 3-game skid. Pop, for the love of God, Don’t. Let. Bonner. Just. Jack. Up. Threes.

….and if the Red Rocket goes up for a dunk ONE more time, I might do something drastic, like trade him away on NBA Live 09 or something.

I noticed the triplets looked pretty angry… what’s their deal? Also their last name Dahm reminds me of Jeffrey Dahmer, the serial killer. So total turn off.
Great game thread by the way, if you learn how to embed videos by Xmas, I got a great video you can put in there for the Xmas game.

I can’t help but notice that Fatality’s been shooting the ball quite a bit in the last two games. For him, that is. And he’s sucked.

Wonder if Pop ordered him to do that.

True story: I tried to name this one “Duncan.” The wife wasn’t having it. Then I suggested Robinson, you know, like Robinson Crusoe (wink wink). I’m sure you can guess how that went over… so he’s named “Max.”

But at least he doesn’t hate black people.

by LatinD on Dec 20, 2008 9:26 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Let's see...

President Bush began his AIDS initiative after traveling to Senegal in 2003, and in one of the best speeches of his Presidency he shouldered responsibility for the past evils of the slave trade ("One of the largest migrations of history was also one of the greatest crimes of history") and promised to help with the present evils of poverty and disease. Five years ago 50,000 people worldwide received medical treatment for the HIV/AIDS virus, and this year the Bush administration passed its overly ambitious goal of treating 2 million people. When Bush received the International Medal of Peace for his tremendous work in this area, Bono called him a hero. Yea, President Bush really hates black people.

by 4Him on Dec 21, 2008 5:18 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You do realize I was making fun of that “Bush hates black people” comment" that someone made during a TV special to support the Katrina effort?

Don’t quite remember, but wasn’t it Kanye West?

by LatinD on Dec 21, 2008 9:18 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You do realize that Kanye West was dead serious when he made his “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” comment?

by 4Him on Dec 21, 2008 3:53 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, of course. But I wasn’t.

by LatinD on Dec 21, 2008 3:58 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Okay…fair enough. It’s hard to pick that up given your other Bush comments. At any rate, I just don’t think that it’s something one should joke about. However, your mileage may vary…

by 4Him on Dec 21, 2008 4:30 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sorry, 4Him, honestly didn’t mean to offend you.

I don’t like Bush – I think he was a horrible president for the US, and managed to ruin the lives of many people living outside the US.

I don’t think he hates black people, though (don’t know that he doesn’t, either, truth be told) – I was just paraphrasing Kanye’s infamous line regarding the black girl’s admittedly funny side glance at Bush.

I’ll try to tone down future comments of that type.

by LatinD on Dec 21, 2008 5:17 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Maybe we might all stick away from political commentary in the future. Nobody really cares what anyone else on the site thinks about US politics anyway, or they’d be somewhere other than a San Antonio SPURS blog. The only things I come here for are SPURS topics, and erotic fish pictures.

That said…… it’s really adorable how we really ARE like a big family, each with our own little agendas and all.

by SgtinManusArmy on Dec 22, 2008 1:00 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah. I mostly add political commentary for the sake of humor, myself, but I guess it’s not so humorous when the guys you support are being mocked. I tend to forget that.

I’m about 6’4", so I think I could get close enough to sucker punch him if I were to feign interest in getting an autograph. He would fall for my ruse, then I’d throw talcum powder in the air to distract him. He’d look up, then Pop! right in the kisser. Putting a column in the graphic concerning mojo was awesome. Not even awesome so much as……. wise. Do you realize the power and additional juju bestowed when the mojo is simply acknowledged?
