Game Thread #25: at Magic
San Antonio Spurs at Orlando Magic, Dec 18, 2008 7:00 PM CST
Ugh! Our Spurs find new ways to kick us all the time.
Double ugh!
No real pre-game thread. Sorry. I had a day full of suck yesterday and when the Spurs collapsed in the 4th I just went to bed.

like some of you, i think we might drop this one as well. hopefully, the boys will be good and pissed off after last night. should be a goodie either way.
as far as last night goes, can’t win them all, particularly when the dreaded 4 minute scoring drought lands on us. next time that happens, somebody needs to post a picture of the flying spaghetti monster to get us back on the right track.
wont be around to watch it live tonite. putting it on DVR and watching later….so you guys dont spoil the outcome for me :)

There is no way Bonner should be shooting 15 shots a game. Frankly, only Timmy, Tony and Manu should be taking anywhere in the neighborhood of those shots, especially in crunch time.
Also, TrueHoop had a nice little piece on Paul using his “savvy and ultra competitiveness” to win that crucial jump ball against Manu. I’m not so disappointed in Manu losing that jump ball but more concerned with him not giving Scrappy Doo a nice whack in the head while losing that ball ~ alas, Manu is too noble for that.
Lets see our bigs outplay the Magic’s bigs for a nice win!

After talking about Paul’s “tricks” employed to dupe officials and create advantages for himself-
“In any case, this is another example of a player who is wholly fascinated with winning in every way, and will do whatever it takes. He’s right there with Kevin Garnett, for me. Hell yes, I want him on my team.”
You have to ask yourself- If Bruce, Manu or Timmy employed this same method of basketball trickery, what would the reaction be?
Hmmm. Why don’t I read TrueHoop anymore?

It’s so interesting to me how some people will look at those who bend, if not break, the rules at every opportunity, and talk about how that person has “the will to win.” When I see a person like that and simply see a lack of integrity, or a lack of respect for the game, or a lack of respect for their opponents.

Dwight Howard playing or not I believe we’ll win this one. One thing very encouraging about last night was our D. Bruce and Manu were moving laterally quicker than they have in a while. Manu of course because he is coming back from his surgery but I think Bruces limited minutes through out the year will be good for him. Regardless of his playing time we know he’ll stay in shape just ask Buddy. The limited playing time will keep him fresh for games when we need his defense and that clutch corner 3 point shot.

i don’t think orlando are playing that well, so if we can start hitting some shots, then yeah, we could still be in this game.
but thats a big if based on what we’ve seen for the first 36 minutes.

so if i was to tell you australia had a first innings lead of 94 on the third day, after mitchell johnson picked up 8 wickets, that wouldn’t mean a lot?

This is from the BBC live text of Indian vs England:
“0522 – 20-1 Players have had a drink and it’s Broad to continue… Dravid tickles him round the corner to move to 3. Loose shot from Gambhir, looking to cut, inside-edging and picking up a single. Broad drops short and Gambhir – who looks like a serious talent – pulls him away for the second four of the day.”
It’s like another language.

in breaking news.....
we actually lost that first test…the saffies scored 4/414 to chase down one of the larger fourth innings totals i’ve seen for a win.
We need interior help! I Mean a better new ball partner for Lee.

i can’t believe we blew that. 414? the second highest run chase ever? being in perth i didn’t get to see it live, so by the time channel 9 started showing it at 4pm, it was already over and i couldn’t bare to watch.
is it too late to bring mcgrath and warne out of retirement? even after that first innings performance johnson doesn’t fill me with confidence, and siddle? meh.

It’s great that we get two consecutive televised games, and we manage to lose them both in a frustrating fashion.
I couldn’t make it last night because I had to do some stuff, but I did watch the game at my GF’s. While I explained to her why there were “so many pauses” in the game, I was able to watch what was probably the worst game from the Spurs since Manu and Tony came back. It was a truly putrid effort.
Don’t worry, guys – the Raptors are coming! That has to be a feel good game. Has to. Or I’ll die.
by LatinD on Dec 19, 2008 4:40 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, really disappointing 2 games.
Before the season started, I wrote somewhere that with Manu coming back in mid-Dec, I hoped the Spurs would be able to go 15-10.
Well, they are 15-10 so I actually got my wish.
So it’s good and it sucks I guess.
With Manu and TP back sooner, it did look like it was going to be better than that.

is it just me, or does it seem that Tony is in a funk right now? he’s not shooting very well, he’s making bad decisions, and he’s forcing a lot when things don’t go his way. this is causing us serious problems in our offensive flow. that, and none of our guys seem to be able to shoot anymore. but 2 games in the last handful that Tony’s gone for less than 10 points is pretty amazing…amazingly bad. wake up!

Yeah he’s not playing like he was before that stupid injury of his. I wouldn’t get too worked up over it because he still is good for 17-20 points a night and keeps the pace of the team up.
