When the lakers aggressive atheltic front line kept getting second chance shot attempts by cleaning the offensive glass so strongly?
I watched Dallas vs LAL earlier this week (you only get 2 games a week live on cable over here in the land of the virile kangaroo so you watch whatever the blue pants they put on). Jason Terry and Dirk DIggler esquire were keeping the mavs in with some crunch shooting but it just wasn't enough. The Lakers were getting so many second shots. It reminded me of the WCF when Manu's ankle gave me palpitations.
IMO the road to the finals goes through the lakers. This year we hopefully wont be as tired and haggard and mostly we wont be as injured (fingers, knees, testicles crossed). We will have a shot at beating anyone.
But the thing that really slaughtered us last year was the rebounding vs a team that has now added an amazing rebounder to its squad. Bynum is just so long, and has such good hands, and is so bloody big.
If we want to contend this year we have to, absolutely have to add a second big that can really really board. We might steal a game off LA but across 7 games I cannot see us surviving. Gasol is playing with an infintely increased amount of aggression, Ariza is super active, Odom is still just hanging about. Luke walton hardly even gets on the court anymore.
For all the improvement in people who can create their own shot with Mason & Hill (plus a returned El Guapo), none of that depth is in the front court.
What in the world can we do to improve it?
Do you agree that the Finals go through the L.A (as in to reach the finals anyone in the west has to be able to beat this team)?
