Where do we get a rebounding / defending big?
Ian is possibly the only light on the horizon here, what about trades? Would a big like Nick Collison or someone who just boards and defends even be achievable via trade given the lack of / age of, our current talent.
Even when Manu & Tony arrive back the front court is not going to miraculously stop hemorraging rebounds.
Don't mean to disparage the athleticism of Fab, the old man savvy of Crazy Eyes, or Matt Bonners tenacious...will to live? I just don't feel confident they can keep the glass clean.

Knowing our front office, the player would have to be at least 30.
That is, even if a trade happens at all.

Hey, you can’t call Crazy Eyes “savvy”. That’s The JV’s quality.

The search for bigs...
What about Washington? With folks raving about Javale McGee, they seem to have plenty of bigs on their books and not so many minutes to go around. Out of Haywood, Thomas, Blatche and McGee – you get the feeling somebody has to go.
Even if we had a good big, Pop would have to play him for it to make a difference. When we’re going with Tony-Manu-Mase-FinDog-Duncan, it wouldn’t matter if we had a young Dennis Rodman on the team, he still wouldn’t rebound if he weren’t in the game.
Catch the Spurs Spirit! It's a Fast-breakin' Fiesta!
Duh,
Off of the rebounding/defending big tree.

What about Joakim Noah? His future seems pretty uncertain in Chicago, with Drew Gooden likely confirmed at starter and Thomas and Gray increasingly taking his minutes. I could see him fitting in well on Pop’s team.
He is a young guy, who plays hard, cleans the glass and may be available. He has a couple of years on his contract, so Chicago might be interested in taking back a contract with less years on it. Bonner might get it done. Or we could include some draft picks. Or maybe one of our lesser expiring contracts like JV and the rights to Mahnimi or…I don’t know…something…
He also sucks.
No, seriously. I love his energy, and his hair – but he can’t score. Can’t. His jumper makes Oberto’s look awesome. I prefer the mere possibility of Mahinmi to him. Or Tolliver, for that matter.
amen to the sucks part. and to the Mahinmi and Tolliver part. but i can’t stand him at all, mainly because he’s from florida, and i hate all florida college teams. and he was least likeable player on that team to me, in large part to all the hype he got from the media. i wonder how his teammate is doing these days, after he got hardly any hype at all compared to the Hair Man.
Haha. Fair enough.
Don’t get me wrong – I’d love for us to get a good, young, talented centre who rebounds like a monster, has a reasonable contract and a strong offensive game – I just don’t know where he would come from.
While we wait for him though – TD’s workload is way too much right now, and we need to find a way to reduce his minutes when Parker and Manu get back, so he is reasonably fresh for the playoffs. If we don’t do something about this situation soon, I think we’re asking for trouble.
Mahnimi isn’t going to help this year. Tolliver is a project. KT is old and undersized, and Fab is carrying injury issues of his own. Meantime, we are getting hammered on the boards most nights, our age is becoming a standing joke for the rest of the league and we are running our best player into the ground. I’d personally take a player who went to College in hell if I thought he could help us right now.
I do see your point though. Someone who had hit a jump shot in their career would be good.

i can think of a person who would have helped us in the rebounding department, but…oh, wait a minute…that’s right, he’s overseas “developing.”
