Mason/Udoka Stats Last Two Games
Over the last two games we have struggled offensively. Here are the stats of two guys who really need to step up on the offensive end Friday vs. Houston:
Combined Total Last Two Games:
Minutes 105:42
FG: 7-35
FG%: 20%
3P: 4-14
3P%: 28%
Points: 24
Why not play Farmer? Give him a chance, it can't hurt when the Bucks are on 21-2 run.
I like Udoka and Mason, it's just a combined 8 points last night in a combined 36 minutes and 7 seconds is a little disappointing.

I'll tell you what's disappointing...
The seemingly contempt attitude of complacency by the higher ups that are controlling these garbage pail kids… I realize that we’re injured out there, but I hesitate to think that the answer is to just tread water in the meantime…
nobody that loses to the bucks is treading anything, anywhere…
It’s a long season, though….

If you want to see somebody who’s in a funk and needs to step up for his team Friday, check these gaudy numbers out.

Not really surprising
I’ve caught a couple of Rocket games, and I noticed typical Ron Artest play. Poor shot selection, making poor decisions with the ball, I’m not surprised at all. Hopefully he keeps it up tomorrow night.

I’m so glad that you said something about Artest, ATS, seriously I am.
So, he gives the Rockets some defense and toughness, does he? Well wasn’t Houston tops in team defense last year without him? And so you add this guy into that mix and you’ve got to know, given his history, that he’s going to jack up (at the very least) a good deal more than his fair share of shots. And this when you’ve got a center on the team whose carreer FG% is over fifty percent.
By all means, Ron-ron, keep jacking it up. Please.

I like Mason a lot, but as I said in ATS’s PYPPMWOMNWOWM series of postings, I don’t think Udoka is that good. I wouldn’t mind seeing Farmer or even Finley getting Udoka’s minutes.
Here’s a list of guys on the Spurs I think should be seeing starter-level minutes on the court:
TD (obviously)
Roger Mason
Here’s who could play an effective 10-20 mins. per game:
Kurt Thomas
Fab
George Hill
FinDog
Here are guys who shouldn’t be getting more than spot minutes:
JV
Umadoka
Bruce
Of course, the jury’s out on Ian. And I don’t think Bonner and Tolliver are NBA-level players. That leaves 2 starters, 4 bench players, and 3 benchwarmers to take the minutes of 5 starters and a few bench guys. The Spurs are going to have to pull a few wins out of their, um, hats if they want to stay afloat until Manu and Tony come back. For that reason, letting a game like last night’s get away hurts much more than it normally would.

Dunno about Toliver, but he’s shown some flashes, and he had a good game against the Bucks. I like how much energy he puts in rebounding, and it seems he can pass the ball. If he starts making those 3s he chucks, he could be an asset.
I can’t figure out what’s wrong with Udoka.

i especially agree with you on his passing. it seems i’ve already seen quite a few times where he has found Tim down low in good positions for scoring opportunities. to me that enhances his value, even if he is still shooting like crap. but he’s shown he can shoot the ball, so i keep my optimism on him higher than he probably deserves – i guess i’m an idiot. hopefully not.

We all know that Tolliver and Fatality can shoot the ball, its unfortunate that they are in a slump, but the only way for them to get out of it is to keep shooting.

O
I just recently found this blog, and I’ve never heard any of these nicknames. Did you all make them up? I never hear anyone in San Antonio say “The JV” or “Fatality” or “FinDog” or “Umedoka” or calling Matt Bonner “Matty.”
It’s not a bad thing, I just never heard those nicknames before.
*So Fatality = Ime Udoka?

Thanks
I really like how this blog and all the SN Blogs are set up. It’s cool how you can write FanPosts so that you don’t have to own and run a full-fledged blog.

at first i figured you would go with a MANU pic from your choice of number next to your screen name, but i always like a little blast from the past. now if your mouth is as big as SJax’s in this pic then you’ll fit right in around here.

The “Fatality” nickname comes from a story told by former Longhorn / fellow Nigerian Gabe Muoneke. Basically, The Nigerian national team was playing against Algeria, and a brawl broke out (think Malice in the Palace times infinity) where the fans and opposing players were attacking the Nigerian national team. Apparently, Ime was dispatching people left and right, like Chuck Norris with a birthmark, only awesomer, and laughing all the while—basically acting like a character in Mortal Kombat, hence the nickname “Fatality.”
Here’s a link to the story:

If the Spurs were ever to be involved in a brawl, I doubt that Manu, Tony, Bonner, et al would be that hard, so it’s good to have him on the team for that reason alone.

We’ve been using them for so long now (a whole year!) that I honestly forget they don’t exist outside this blog. Ah, well. If anything, if you stay around you can try throwing around nicknames and see if any of them stick.
Tolliver, Hill and Mason are still available. (Although I still like SpursTalk’s BlackBerry for Mason… :)

I believe that it is BlackBarry isn’t it. A reference to Brent Barry.

Right. BlackBarry. I just went straight for the technological double entendre.

Also, Umadoka = Ime Udoka
You can credit that to Charles Barkley.
