Game Thread #7: at Bucks
San Antonio Spurs at Milwaukee Bucks, Nov 12, 2008 7:00 PM CST
The Spurs ushered in the George Hill-starter era with a 'W'. He played 31 minutes and did a marvelous job. Roger had an off night but FinDog and Bruce were on fire. Let's see if we can keep this hot streak going. We are 1-0 in our last 1 games. We are 1-0 in our last 1 road games. We are 1-0 in the second night of back-to-backs. Everything is in our favor.
Pop open a cold one, throw a dog on the barby, and bring your bad self on in. It's guys night out.

Officials: Mauer, Dalen, Jones
Keys To The Game:
More Defense: We played well last night. We'll need more of that tonight.
Shooting: Can FinDog and associates knock down some outside shots tonight?
Legs: Both teams played last night. Who will be the more energetic team?
Some other reading:
You can find some Bucks content at Brew Hoop.
Other:
Hmmmmmm, so this isn't a new thing: Young.

Old.

A little bonus video. This is 8 minutes long. It has several things we have read in other places and the video of Manu doing the shooting drills at the end. What I find interesting is Tim's part of the interview. I read earlier in the year at FoxSports that people would like Tim more if he wasn't so condescending to the media.

How sad that it likely took you hours to think up “A former talented youngster who was picked up by San Antonio to wither and die” before finally settling on Terry. Although, I would KILL to have even old Terry these days. And that’s not even a fair description for him considering our current roster of has-beens and fossils.
Sorry to have missed the Knicks game, but it looks like my absence may have been the mojo needed. That, or we simply own D’oh wherever he is. Actually I like that idea better. Either way, I’ll be deliberately missed the Bucks now as well. We need all that we can get at this point.

Ugh… I hate it when we play the Bucks at their place. Games there are always a grind. This should be interesting.

Not much to add, although I do credit our win to my pic of the flying cheerleader. But since I can’t find any, Bango will do.

Just kidding. Can’t live without cheerleader dunks.

I meant it literally
This is lots of fun: a list of the Chinese nicknames for some of the current NBA players. It’s old and most of you’ve probably already seen it, but I thought I’d share it. Would be a pity for you to miss Duncan’s “Stone Buddha” nick, or Manu’s “Argentina’s Flying Man”.

The resemblance is uncanny

whose wedding did the reverend TC preside over? wasnt it dave robinson’s? or perhaps sean elliot’s? anyone remember that?
hopefully, tonite’s outcome in milwaukee will be better than some of those in recent past history. always seemed like it was mo williams who gave us fits. now he’s with celveland, so……mike redd is out as well. see there, i talked myself into calling this game winable

Always have trouble against the Bucks
We seem to always have troubles with the Bucks. I hope for the best.
Also, I have been spending my time searching college and international basketball websites anticipating our number one draft pick (#1 of the entire draft). So far, my search for the next Duncan/Robinson is not going well. I have only found a single serviceable power forward that is NBA ready. Why couldn’t we have tanked last year!

Spurs with a chance to tie it or go for the win??
(although this should never have happened)

The play-by-play said offensive foul on Bucks with 17 secs left.
Spurs ball down by 2.
Did they yet that wrong?

those bucks announcers are great
Sessions misses the second and they go, “Ohhhhh, no.”

…He missed? I don’t know what to think…
Another OT with the Bucks? We go for the win? What do we do?
Finley broke my brain.

Well, we lost this one. We did everything we could to lose it, too.

finley’s 3 plus sessions missing 1 of 2 gave us the shot at the game
can’t fault us working the ball to Duncan — he just missed
that’s why Manu takes those at the end of the game
all you can say

It was JV… Veteran savvy? What savvy?!
That was the least intelligent basketball play I remember from the Spurs. WTF was he thinking? 3 seconds left, and he does that?
I seriously can’t believe it. 2-5, and JV helped us get into that hole.

WAS THAT JV? IF IT WAS JV I’LL KEEP USING ALLCAPS FOR THE REST OF THE RS…

The fucktard didn’t shoot the 3, tried to find someone else instead. What an asshat.

dribbled the ball too long and passed too late so that we didn’t even get a last shot

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but the only one that showed up to play today was Finley. Kudos, Findog.

Game ball to Findog. TD with 5 boards, Bogut with 17. This loss falls squarely on the shoulders of Pop, TD and The JV.

Lost it at the FT line too.
Bucks took 16 more FTS. Making 11 of them.
More aggressive??

Nah, that’s what happens when you have young, athletic slashers.

what is a “young, athletic slasher”?
Been following the Spurs for 20 years and never heard that term before.
(Till MANU of course)

Hahaha, that’s because he gets on poundingtherock every night and he reads
“Don’t shoot, JV!!!”
“Let’s hope JV doesn’t take a shot”

Geez, Knicks won 132-103 vs the Grizzlies. (non OT)
Guess they were trying to increase their scoring average after the Spurs game.

Loved the chat, you guys are comedy.
The pinnacle of comedic genius reading this chat after the game?
“Get Finley in the game dammit!”
Wait…. that was serious?!?!!!
Wow fellas. I think we’d better get used to requiring a TD shot at the buzzer to OT or win against the bottom-dwellers of the league. We just don’t have the firepower to hang with even other average healthy teams. I’m not even going to mention us facing the good, or even GREAT teams. It’s gonna be a long lonely road til our studs are back. Look on the bright side though- most other teams facing the bad luck we’ve had and losing 66% of their stars would be in the same boat. Houston, Boston, Nooch…… I can’t see them banging much better without 2 of their 3 studs. Imagine Dallas…… there’s encouragement there, right? Yes, our “bunch of suck” is significantly suckier than other teams’ but we’re just the victims of bad breaks (or sprains) right now. It’s gonna turn around.
Light slowly peaks across the horizon illuminating the terrain before us with a soft eerie glow of a fire to come. And the sun’s name……. is Emmanuel.

the sun’s name means “God with us”
how ironic that Manu doesn’t believe in God, when name means that
on an irony scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 6.5

There’s a pun there that may not translate very well. You know I’m aware of the correct spelling of our savior, it’s an abomination to insinuate that I’m not.

Damn… pun? I missed it? Someone called Emma?
Anyway. I’ve seen people refer to him as Emmanuel before – should’ve known you weren’t one of those. My apologies.

i think the funnies comment on the thread was “asshat.” that was a classic that still has me chuckling….which is about i can muster after pooping away the game by giving up a 20-7 run to start the 4th. sad sad times indeed.
last night was FDAABOS (fin dog and a bunch of suck). i cant even believe im saying that. but FDAABOS = loss to the bucks without mike redd for the whole game and chuck villanueva for most of it. pathetic.
