more off-season shenanigans
hey everybody. i thought i'd point this out and see what ya'll think. the spurs signed desmon farmer over malik hairston. here's the express-news story: http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Farmer_makes_final_Spurs_cut_hopes_it_will_be_last.html
so, if i get this right, we drafted an unproven point guard in the first round when slashing 2-guards and other points were available, then drafted another point with our first second-round pick, goran dragic, and then a post player with strength with our last pick.
we then traded dragic for malik hairston and a future second-rounder.
now we have waived hairston, and dragic is expected to be nash's primary backup. gist previously left us for money and a guaranteed contract overseas.
so, the only thing we got out of the draft, in possibly our most important building year of the duncan era, is a point guard that has trouble putting the ball in the basket and a future second round pick? is this right?

Im worried about the team 2-4 years from now
And this offseason really laid the foundation for that, prior to that, I had complete faith…but youre absolutely right, some of these draft day trades have been quite perplexing….especially when we trade serviceable guys for draft picks, who then never even make the team, or in some cases never even touch American soil.
I cant wait to see Donte Greene, Mario Chalmers and Chris Douglass Roberts succeed this year, Ill get that same familiar twinge as when I see Barbosa.
This year, I think we’ll be fine, as Ive read in a few places, Manu missing a few months might be beneficial down the stretch…..odds are the Spurs will be the 4-6 seed that “no one wants to play” which should suit them well.
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
You no longer need to wait on Chalmers.
He had a great line his opening night
7-13 FG
2-4 3PT
7 rebounds
8 assists
1 turnover
17 points
Good thing we have curious george though. He might develop into Jannero Pargo in a few years.

Don’t you mean Jannero Pargo with some defense?
I am calm, filling myself with patience - Manu Ginobili
Let’s see how his defense looks in an NBA regular season game. Jaque Vaughn was talked up as a good defender too, and he is really quite average. I know, I know, he shut down CP3 in the pre-season. If he does it in a real game I will be impressed.
However, lockdown defender is not the number one characteristic I’d look for in a backup PG. I’d prefer someone who can make something happen on offense first. The defense is just a bonus, because likely he’d be going against other backup PGs for most of his minutes.
BTW, here is what DraftExpress says about Pargo’s defense:
"A very good defender who uses his quickness to hawk the ball, but does not have great length at 6-2. Can be a real nuisance for less athletic point guards. Moves his feet extremely well and maintains a low stance. Will get too aggressive sometimes and get beaten off the dribble, but not often. Commits some fouls by nature of his assertiveness. Does his best to keep the ball out of the lane. Not a risk taker, but plays with a physicality that allows him to be a very good defensive point guard. Struggles when forced to defend shooting guards, though, which happens fairly often. Not strong enough at times to fight through screens on the pick and roll. Lacks the height to contest shots and make an impact on the glass, but will run down long rebounds and do his best to get a hand up when he can. "
