Nba Player Rankings

Sports Illustrated player rankings

Star-divide

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/kelly_dwyer/02/02/player.rankings/index.html

Duncan is ranked 6th in the NBA

Ginobili is ranked 19th. It's great what this sports writer writes "I'm not going to punish Ginobili just because Gregg Popovich sees fit to hand Michael Finley 21 minutes a night." It seems like some people in the media realize we shouldn't be playing Finley that much, but our own head coach doesn't.

Re: Nba Player Rankings
Kelly Dwyer, the guy who does those players rankings, is one of the few sportswriters worth reading (in my opinion).  He's also a nice guy.

Re: Nba Player Rankings
This guy really knows his stuff.

Look what he wrote a couple of weeks ago.

"Michael Finley's a gem. He was the heart and soul of a litany of strong Dallas Maverick teams, suffered through working as the heart and soul (while playing more than 40 minutes a night) of a litany of embarrassing Mavericks teams, and was one of the better wing players of his generation. That said, there is no reason for him to be averaging 21 minutes per game on the 2006-07 San Antonio Spurs, especially with Ginobili averaging just 27.8. Manu averages nine points per game more with those extra minutes, with nearly three times as many assists and 10 times as many steals, and he rebounds better per minute. And you can't begin to convince me that Finley's defense is superior enough (or at all, really) to Manu's to prevent Ginobili from averaging 35 minutes."

Re: Nba Player Rankings
If we all got our wish and gave ten of Finley's minutes to Ginobili, wouldn't we all then be bitching about how worn out and ragged we'll have made the Schnozz come playoff time? The first time he broke a nail, our collective heads would a-splode.

With all respect.

Re: Nba Player Rankings
The problem is we don't know if Manu will wear down unless we let him play? And last year he was injured, not worn down, and he still played great against the Mavs.

To try to save him a couple of extra minutes for the playoffs is crazy, because he is only 29 years old, and doesn't seem tired at all this year. Now I could be wrong, but unless he is playing roughly 5 minutes more per game, we can never tell.

Also, I know we all worry about him being injured but if he is going to get hurt, it wouldn't make a deference if he plays 27 minutes per game or 32. But those extra 5 minutes per game could mean a lose or a win for the Spurs right now.

I will have more on this after my write up against the Magic. stay tuned! I have some words to our coach too!
