Avery's jersey gets retired tonight

Prediction: the Spurs will retire four numbers from the current team.

Star-divide

Tony Parker's jersey gets retired. He's been improving his game year after year. He actually let the team during the finals against the Cavaliers and deserved the Finals MVP nod. At 25, and years under contract, he'll continue to have an impact on the team and on the NBA.

Manu Ginobili's jersey gets retired. Overall, not as big on an impact as Tony, but he's huge for the Spurs. He had the foul on Dirk, but before that he hit the go-ahead three point shot. He's usually the guy with the ball on the last possesion.

Bruce Bowen's number gets retired, too. He's been a defensive force for the Spurs. He's the reason people don't call the Spurs choir boys anymore. And he should have gotten the DPOY last season. Any, no Bruce, no titles.

And maybe that guy who plays power forward too. Tim Duncan doesn't need any justification.

"Overall, not as big on an impact as Tony... He had the foul on Dirk"

Oh man, while I appreciate your bravery, I'm going to miss you after the others at this site read that and have you killed...

Also, I agree, those 4 will get their numbers retired.  Bowen's karate kick action alone should get him in.

Re: Avery's jersey gets retired tonight
Wow, the guy who is trusted with the ball in the last 2 minutes of every important ball game in recent history doesn't have as big an impact as Tony?

Have you watched the Spurs since Manu joined the team?  I agree Tony was MVP of last years finals series, but Manu and Tim have been the leaders of our postseason success.

In order of importance to the team...

Tim Duncan
Manu Ginobili
Tony Parker tied with Bruce Bowen

All four of these guys will definitely have their jersey's retired... and deservedly so.  But, I'll wait a couple of years before I move Tony up in my list.

I am happy.  I am proud.  - Manu Ginobili

He said what about Manu?
Yeah dude that Manu comment is gonna bring some heat, that is the wrong thing to say on this site and plus its just wrong. Manu is a better player than Tony, and Manu should have a Finals MVP himself. In any event, all of those guys will have their numbers hung in the rafters.

Re: Avery's jersey gets retired tonight
everybody slay me all you want for the manu comment. i stand behind it. tony parker is younger, has the ball more during the game, and continuously has the other team scheming to stop his one on one or one on two or one on three fast breaks. and in case nobody noticed, tony gets paid more.

btw, i could have seen manu getting the finals mvp in 2005. i saw why they picked tim, but manu got almost half the votes.

Re: Avery's jersey gets retired tonight
You have a right to your opinion, I'm just saying look at the blog's title page. The fact that Tony is younger and gets paid more than Manu is inconsequential. Manu is the better player, point blank. Better defender, better shooter, better passer, just better. I love Tony, but if anything he benefits more from TD's presence than anything else. But it's all good, I just want everybody to get back healthy so the Spurs can get back to kicking ass like they were in November.

Re: Avery's jersey gets retired tonight
No one here is going to belittle Tony or deny his talent and contributions. He's a central part of the current Spurs. But Manu's impact game in and game out is enormous, on both ends of the floor, physically and psychologically. He gives the Spurs a heart and a soul that is immeasurable.

Re: Avery's jersey gets retired tonight
tony's age is not inconsequential. he's going to be contributing a lot longer than manu will be. he's already been a starter for about 3 or 4 more seasons that ginobili.

tony's pay is not inconsequential. there are people are have won more nba championships than you who think tony should be paid more than manu.

tony has more points per game, assists per game, and a higher shooting percentage. if manu is better at all those things, he's not converting that to helping the spurs more.

i love manu, and i'd rather he has the ball at the end of a tie game (or one point deficit), but all the points count the same when the tally the score and tony has more of them.

it's my opinion, but it's based on facts not feelings.

Re: Avery's jersey gets retired tonight
Don't fret about it DMCNULLA this web site is full of Manu homers. Unless you are praising Manu non-stop you will get roasted LOL.  But it's no surprise since the lead writer disappears the minute Manu gets hurt.  When Manu was rolling STAMPLER was writing 5000 word blogs.  Now that Manu slowed down STAMPLERS "modem broke" LMAO.  Keep telling it like it is and ignore the homers.  PS I nominate you to write for the web site to try to balance out the huge Manu homer feeling that has taken over. If this web site isn't going to be for all the Spurs and not just Manu they should change it to poundingmanusjock.com =)
