I think the Suns will bring more heart to this one.  Plus, Jack Nies is refereeing tonight and he never gives Duncan any calls.

Tim in foul trouble.  No Tony.  No calls from the zebras.

Suns:  108
Spurs:  91

We need Parker a lot against these guys, especially on defense, he does a great job on Barbosa

As I mentioned against Denver the other day, the Spurs are too mentally tough for this team as well.

Re: Game Thread # 24 -- vs. Phoenix
near the end of the half. suns mosly playing on the lead, but its close and at spurs pace.  seems to have a familiar feel to it from that perspective...we kinda let them have the lead until mid/late 3rd before taking over.

game not nearly as chippy as i expected.

timmy has 20-10 already.  they are refusing to double him, or even play any D on him at all.  he must have 8 makes of two feet or closer.

these are good signs.

need to get gino going. he will have plenty of room to operate.

I meant huh, not hun. Anyway, the gang gave great effort, there just wasn't the timely shooting and stops that normally are there for us. And color me unimpressed by the Suns, and I can't wait for the rematch.

I would have preferred winning that game because then I could have written the "How the fuck are the Suns going to have a prayer against us in the playoffs if they can't beat us when we're missing Parker and Elson" post.

I could have written the "How the fuck are the Suns going to have a prayer against us in the playoffs if they can only barely squeeze by us when we're missing Parker and Elson" post.

there ya go.

that was a good game. timmy was a monster, they shoulda kept him in that last play. don't know what is up with gino. just one of those weeks i guess. sigh these games mean nothing on paper but they mean everything when it comes to confidence and grand-standing come playoff time. but i  won't hang my head in shame. we still done did good. just a few lousy plays in the end.

Re: Game Thread # 24 -- vs. Phoenix
yup to that.  suns kept their focus down the stretch to their credit, but they still are mentally soft.  the grant hill pick-up looks good for them.

poor shooting for our side tonite. sucks to lose to them, but we'll live thru it. we did miss frenchy - but how good was JV?  if he keeps this kind of play up, this blog might have to undergo a sub-title name change.

Re: Game Thread # 24 -- vs. Phoenix
Matt, I would have enjoyed that post too. I am just not broken up over this loss, I know the "analysts" at ESPN will try to spin this as a coming of age victory for the Suns, but they let Tim Duncan at about 80-85% have a field day and Mr. Longoria who normally kills them was out. Even w/o Tony, the Spurs should have won that game. I know this team will not shot 5-23 from 3 pt land in every game of a 7 game series against this team. Especially with all the open looks we'll get against them. And JV brought his A game tonight didn't he? I didn't know he had it in him.

Re: Game Thread # 24 -- vs. Phoenix
The refs finally decided to call some fouls on Hit Man Bowen and the Spurs lost.  Ask LA about one banger winning the game for you.  Duncan has to have a little help and he didn't get it tonight.  It was great to finally watch a Spurs game without the camera focusing on the French bitch all night.  By the way, who was Tony banging in Paris?

Second to final play
Am I the only one who is upset that they obviously drew up that 3 point shot for Bowen when he hadn't made a shot all night?  They got a good look, but my feeling is that the play should have been drawn up for Tim or Manu to shoot.  If Bowen gets an open look because the defense forces us away from one of those 2, I can live with that.  I just don't think that Bowen should have been the plan going into the play.  Why not put Finley in the corner if you want to surprise Phoenix by not drawing it up for Tim or Manu?

Re: Game Thread # 24 -- vs. Phoenix
i can always live with a bruce bowen shot from the corner.  just ask the suns how it worked out for them in game 5 last year.

here is a link to an excellent game recap by charlie rosen on the fox sports page today.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7575966

otherwise, dont get too worked up about this.  sure we wanted to win, and it sucks that we didnt. the suns can have all the laughs they want until may.  i'll start getting overworked up about suns games then.

i do want SA to win enough games to get the home court throughout, so this loss was definitely important from that standpoint, but its not the end of days.

until then, give phoenix their due for working grant hill into their system (a wrinkle for which we will need to prepare aassuming he stays healthy long enough); and for making the plays when they needed to in our building.  i think it could have been more that the spurs didnt make plays, but we'll just hafta see about that next time.

Re: Game Thread # 24 -- vs. Phoenix
I agree; that one shot would have likely won the game for us, and while having Bruce shoot it is probably not our first option, he has hit big ones before. As I understand it, the play was designed for Gino to take the shot, but he spotted BB wide open in corner .. his favorite spot. There are some teams that TP's absence doesn't hurt us much. But that is not the case with the Suns. Not only does he open things up for Manu and others, he also does a good job of forcing Barbosa off his sweet spots. Bottom line is that the Suns have no answer for Timmy now that Kurt Thomas is gone (and he didn't stop TD, just made him work harder). Manu also continued with his shooting woes. Don't know what's up, but we need him back desperately. With Tony back in the lineup, I don't think the Suns can stay with us, Grant Hill or not.

Re: Game Thread # 24 -- vs. Phoenix
Manu is just going to a lil slump, you all know he's gonna come up big when it counts. That was a great game though. I didn't realize Grant Hill had that much left in his tank and damn if his wife ain't fine as hell. In any event, bring on the Grizzlies.
