Game Thread # 21 -- @ Golden State

Let's be honest with ourselves.  If you're a regular reader of this blog then you probably want Tim Duncan to sit tonight out, just to see what The Sickness is capable of against Golden State.  The Warriors are a vastly better team with Stephen Jackson on the court, but let's not get this twisted, they're still Golden State, Manu's still Manu and I need a third thing to finish this sentence so let's go with "Baron Davis is still a lock to hoist up a bunch of junk at random intervals."  After all, this is very nearly the same Warrior team the Spurs beat by a combined 89 points in their last three meetings.  Yes.  Really.  89 points.

Oh, by the way, the Spurs have the best offense in the NBA.  Just thought you might want to know that.

Oh, and another thing.  Tony Parker is 11th in the league in PER.

(I had a dream last night that Tony Parker shot free throws backwards during the second half of a game.  He made the first one, air balled the second and front-rimmed the third.  Was he fouled on a three pointer?  No.  Then why was he shooting three freebies?  I don't know.  Ask my subconscious; I'm just happy the devil wasn't chasing me.)

I just want them to keep timmy out because I want him to be 106% when he finally does come back.  No nagging injuries when he's not gonna start trying till late Feb anyways...

Look for Parker to get back into the scoring mode in this game, especially with Tim back in the lineup. Manu will go back to 27-29 minutes but still get his 20.

Matt, at least your dream was better than mine, in mine I met in a beach possibly the most beautiful girl I've ever seen and then later on a humongous wave came and I drowned. Not the I-almost-drowned-but-then-woke-up either, I effing drowned. And then when I woke up I got a call from my ex...Wonder what means...

Anyway, hope we beat the fun playing and defensively challenged Warriors. I'll be listening to it on NBA radio, feeling at the same time future-ish and grandpa-ish.

According to a report on the SA Express website, Dunc looks like a no go. I still stick by my score though.

Re: Game Thread # 21 -- @ Golden State
i was gonna post something about the spurs having the best offensive efficiency in the league. and in this topsy-turvey world, what would make more sense than the spurs being 23rd in defensive efficiency?

i don't know if it matters, because that's the truth. at least the last time i checked.

i think gino stole bonner's jersey and donned a ginger wig.  that is two good ones in a row for the super bon bon.

just trying to take something good out of that one.  the second qtr was baaaaad.

no problem with sitting timmy and i'll even accept it thursday vs. the lakers.  i would like to have him back for sure with denver and the whiny dessert pricks coming in after.

I feel bad for Aaron who actually went to the game!

But yeah I will take 17-4 any day of the week.

Is it just me or does it look like Tony really can't play that well without Duncan out on the floor? It looks like he has had 3 straight bad games.

Adam, your not alone in that assessment. He is out there trying to do too Gotdamn much, way he thinks he has to go one on three so often, is beyond me.

Re: Game Thread # 21 -- @ Golden State
as much as this site hates tp-lovers i have to come to his defense. yes, as stampler pointed out, tony has lots of selfish plays. BUT that is his role. 'member how this team is about role players? everyone has a role. TP's strength is his ability to get in the lane and occasionally finish. TP drives. Perimeter shooters wait in the field. timmy's there to clean it up. but with no timmy, the opposition is free to clobber tony.

i cringe when he plays horribly cuz i know pop ain't taking him out of the game. parker is just doing what he knows and what pop has taught him to do. if TP were to not be aggressive and not be selfish, regardless of performance, pop would take him out. thats just pops style. he sees TP as just another cog in his system.

Re: Game Thread # 21 -- @ Golden State
I have no problem with Tony being selfish..that is who he is..I'm not trying to knock that at all especially since Pop lets him shoot!

My problem is the last 3 games he tries to do too much without getting anyone involved. He just seems to come down and chuck it up without even looking for his teammates.

All I want  for Tony is to come down pass it to someone get it back and then shot it. Since Duncan has been out him and Manu have been given the green light to shoot, but Tony needs to realize when to shoot and when to pass.

And I'm not going to feel sorry for him because he is 26 years old and has been in the league for 6-7 years and he gets paid over 10 million dollars!

If Manu was doing to same thing I would criticize  him too. Players have to make adjustments that is how they improve

Re: Game Thread # 21 -- @ Golden State
i agree wholeheartedly that little TP is trying to do too much without timmy in there.  it does put him out of his element that way for sure, but i'm, not sure there are 2-3 point guards better than him - he's just now doing what a lot of them in this league do on a nightly basis. and just because we beat dallas and utah without timmy doesn't mean that we're gonna roll whoever without the tim to tote the load.

little TP will be fine.

in the last two games particularly, he was also having some big time problems on defense.  i think that pop let him go a little too long on some bad match-ups against golden state.

he had some tough asssignments during this stretch (harris, willimans and davis).

either way, its a long season and frenchy wont be perfect forever.  he should be in a much more favorable match-up vs. the lakers tonite.
