Real-life brushes with greatness

After reading last night's Gary Coleman/Shawn Kemp thread of one-up-manship, I was reminded of my own brush with Greatness (capitalization intentional) and I was curious if anyone else 'round here has similar experiences with Spurs out of uniform...

When I was in high school, working at the Subway on Thousand Oaks and 281, none other than Vinny Del Negro pulled up in his tripped-out SUV and ordered a sandwich for himself, and another for his wife. He wasn't sure what to get for his wife at first, and asked me for a recommendation. I suggested the steak and cheese (it was on sale.) He went with the turkey instead.

He paid with a check. If I had only one chance to go back in time and change the past, I would have put that check in my pocket and gladly replaced it in the register with some cash.

My roommate's got an even better brush: One quiet summer evening at a bar, Peter Holt walks in and orders shots of tequila for everyone. I'm guessing it was before his trip to rehab.

Anyone else?

Ahh Vinny Del Negro.  When I think of him I think of his hair, which says a lot about his game.  Or maybe it just says a lot about my infatuation with mens' hair.

My high school basketball coach told us once that he used regular soap on his hair.  Said it was the same as shampoo.  His hair always looked like ass.

I've never met or even seen any Spur outside of the arena.  This may something to do with living outside of San Antonio for the past 11 years.

Re: Real-life brushes with greatness
I worked at a Regal cinema on 281 and Thousand Oaks, and over the course of 16 months, I saw Tony once (tore his ticket for Texas Chainsaw Massacre and jokingly carded him. . .this made him very confused,  which makes me wonder if they have a more lenient movie rating system in France), Malik once, Bruce once, and Manu twice (tore his ticket for something, I can't remember because I was too distracted by the fact that it was Manu frickin' Ginobili), and then saw him again when a movie let out and got him to sign my usher schedule.  Moral of the story I guess is that Northwest side SA is the place to be if you want brushes with Greatness. . .and that I have an infatuation run-on sentences. . .and apparently want Tony Parker to beat me up.

I don't blame you. I'd probably have carded Tony Parker if he came into Subway.
