Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Last picks of the year (non-playoff edition).

I get to go to Vegas for wild card weekend next week and both the Eagles and the Colts will be prominently involved.  Wheeee.  And hopefully I can see the Cowboys bite it as well.  That's be nice.

Oh and I'll watch Spurs/Mavs there on Friday and probably miss their game with the Grizz on Sunday.  Wheee?

I'll figure out what my record for the year was sometime in the middle of next week.  Blah.

Re: Last picks of the year (non-playoff edition).
Did anyone watch the Spurs vs Hawks? I mean does Tony ever pass the ball, or does he try to score very single time he has it? With the Spurs up by 15 with like 3 minutes left. He took 5 of the last 6 shots until Pop pulled him out.
I believe Pop left him in the game with Bonner and the reserves so he can drive and get them some open shots, not so he can pad his stats! I also think Pop yelled at him when he pulled out the game because he wasn't passing again it happened with 1 minute and 26 seconds left in the game.

I think if you averaged Tony's scoring rate in the last two minutes of ballgames that the Spurs are up 10+ or down 10+, it'd come out to like 200 points per 48 minutes...

but yeah, Pop was PISSED.  Probably the most upset he's been about a guy showing poor sportsmanship on our team since T-Rex in game 1 vs the Kings last year.

I think he wanted Tony to call time so he could pull him instead of scoring.

Re: Last picks of the year (non-playoff edition).
makes perfect sense. Tony would definitely be one of my favorite Spurs players if he wasn't sometimes so selfish with the ball. And you are so right about him just scoring at the end of games, when the game is out reach. I personally believe that he is the only Spurs player that looks at his scoring stat. He should rather be looking at his assists stats.
Well we know the only person that can address this problem is Pop, and I hope he does!
Happy New Year everyone!

Re: Last picks of the year (non-playoff edition).
I have another beef with Coach Pop. Why doesn't he let Beno play more. This is his third year and he is a good back up point guard. So he makes some bad decisions, who doesn't? Let the kid play through it. I like Vaughn, but Beno is suppose to be the back up and needs to play around 20-25 minutes per game. What kind of confidence does he have, if every time he gets in the game and he makes a bad play, Pop pulls him and doesn't play him the rest of the game.

Maybe if Pop played Beno more last year against Dallas instead of Van Exel, Devin Harris wouldn't be averaging 16 points per game, and we would have beaten Dallas(Idiot)! Great coaching job.

Stop playing mind games with the players and let them build confidence. At least when Beno is on the floor he looks to pass first and shoot second not the other way around. Coach Whino pisses me off sometime!

P.S. play Manu more damn it!  27 minutes per game isn't enough!
